Greet your guide at the Vienna Explorer tour office on Franz Josefs Kai and make your way to a local metro station. From here, you’ll take the metro to a train station and board a train destined for the Wachau Valley — a luscious region replete with vineyards, wineries and quaint villages.

On arrival in the valley, collect your modern bikes and listen to a short safety briefing. The gentle, 15-mile (24-km) route is comprised primarily of cycle paths and quiet roads, ensuring you’ll feel safe and secure throughout.

Pedal beside the picturesque Danube River and feast your senses on stunning scenery before stopping at your first winery to sample the local bounty. During each tasting, a wine expert will detail the production processes and subtle tastes of each wine.

Midway through the day, you’ll stop in the charming village of Dürnstein to explore during free time. Opt to ascend to the ruins of a fortress used to incarcerate King Richard the Lionhear or simply relax on the beach beside the Danube. Swimming is optional so bring along a towel and bathing suit if you’d like to dip in the Danube.

After lunch in a local tavern, continue cycling to your final winery before returning to the train station for the transfer back to Vienna.

Overall a Great trip . It was a good experience to see life outside of the city of vienna . Fab selection of wines to try and informative. The bike riding was an enjoyable smooth pace and at no point did we feel rushed . Fairly priced and friendly tour guide . Very impressed by the company allowing the trip to go ahead with less people than usual - otherwise we would of missed out .

Plush vineyards and blue skies as far as your eyes can see. Good stops in between to taste wine at Domane & Mang Families Vineyards. The bicycle ride along the serene Danube from Krems was just the most ecstatic and easy bicycle ride ever.

This was a well executed tour. Our guide, Tomas, was highly personable and professional. His English was excellent and commentary interesting. The bikes were in great condition. The wine-tasting stops were interesting . Overall it was a fun way to spend the day. I highly recommend this tour!

Great way to spend a day!

This is a wonderful day trip from Vienna. The cycle part is very flat and easy. The views of the vineyards and Danube are amazing in addition to the wine. At the lunch stop there is an opportunity to hike up to a castle. It is a steep hike but it is paid off in unrivaled views of the valley. Yolo was our guide and did a great job of keeping the group together (we had some very inexperienced riders) and giving us insight to the local culture.

This was a tour that we had been looking forward to for months. Our expectations were high, and the experience exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide, Hugo, was smart, funny, and organized. He explained each wine in great detail which only added to the experience. He took time so talk with each of us individually which made us feel like a large family. I would highly recommend this tour and, of course, Hugo.

Best day of our 11-day trip

We had an amazing time with Jan biking through the Wachau Valley! Tour is well thought-out - we met at a very reasonable hour (unlike many other tours), took the subway and train together to a garage where the bikes were stored. The scenery here is amazing!! At the first winery we were surprised how much wine they gave us to try and we actually ended up buying some to bring home. Pack light because this a great place to get wine & other things like apricot liqueur and jams. Lunch was great & quick - we even had time to run up to the castle ruins which was an amazing view but I do think we missed out on some shopping. The second winery is beautiful and though we liked the wine less than the first stop, it was still a great stop! The biking is pretty leisurely, and mostly on protected bike lanes. We definitely felt safe the entire time. Our group was great and pretty small (~8) so we got to know everyone and really just had the best day. We were a little early so we had time to stop for ice cream on the way back, too! Special shout out to Jan who was an amazing guide! He is so intelligent, informed, and curious - the absolute best traits in someone leading you for the day.
