Piazza Bra , Bra, Verona VR, Italy

Meeting point is at Piazza Brà  (the square with the Roman arena) under the equestrian statue of King Vittorio Emanuele.

This activity will end right where it started.
Choose your afternoon tour time, then make your way to the start point by the equestrian statue in Piazza Brà. With your guide and group together, you’ll set off to discover the sights and history of Verona.

First, you’ll check out Verona Arena, the city’s millennia-old Roman amphitheater, which was built decades before Rome’s Colosseum. Once the site of gladiatorial battle, the stadium is now used for large-scale opera performances that draw crowds from around the world.

Continue along the main shopping street of Via Mazzini, passing the Loggia Arvedi, and stop to gaze at Juliet’s House (Casa di Giulietta). The balconied house was built to celebrate Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which was famously set in Verona.

Work your way through courtyards and alleyways to see the Scavi Scaligeri, an excavation site of Roman and medieval ruins. From here, you’ll visit the gothic Scala family tombs and see their first abode in the stately Piazza dei Signori. Hear about the noble family who once ruled the city, as you walk.

Pass more highlights such as the Lamberti Tower and the 14th-century Palazzo del Tribunale on your way to Piazza delle Erbe, site of the ancient Roman forum. Here, you’ll listen to fun facts about landmarks such as the Fountain of Madonna Verona, which is the symbol of the city, and the House of the Merchants. Continue on to find other quirky but less-well-known sites, such as the Well of Love, a landmark with a tragic legend.

When your tour ends, stroll with your guide to a nearby wine bar and relax with some wine. Sample a local red and white varietal along with some snacks to finish on a high note.

Piazza delle Erbe
Starting from the 2,000 year-old Arena, the Roman Amphitheatre built some 26 years before the Colosseum of Rome to host fights between gladiators and between men and beasts, you will move along Via Mazzini, the main shopping street of Verona, where the 19th century Loggia Arvedi is to be found and you will get to the famous Juliet's House, where the inside courtyard with the famous balcony and the statue can be seen. Then, passing through other internal courtyards you will see the Scavi Scaligeri, excavations of the Roman and Medieval city, partially visible through the glasses, and the Porta dei Bombardieri. You will then move to the Scala family Tombs and their first house in the nearby Piazza Dei Signori. There, you will notice also the 12th century City Hall, the Lamberti Tower, the 15th-century Loggia di Fra'Giocondo, the 14th century Palazzo del Tribunale. From there, you will move to Piazza Erbe, (the vegetable market), the ancient Roman Forum. There you will see the "Berlina", the place where criminals were exposed, the Fountain of Madonna Verona, (symbol of the city), the 14th century House of Merchants, the Guard Tower of the 'Gardello', the Baroque XVII century Palazzo Maffei and the frescoed Casa Mazzanti. Finally, you will reach the Well of Love with its sad story about two lovers. The tour will end in the nearby historical Winebar (Enoteca), to taste a couple of good local wines (one red and one white) together with some light snacks.

There were issues relating to the nominated meeting place. Piazza Bra is a large space swarming with people. We were not given a more precise location such as the statue in the centre. Guide pleasant and reasonably knowledgeable. Focus of the tour was on seeing the location and outside of the various places and hearing the stories. Ended at an interesting wine shop with wine tasting

Consigliatissimo. Il nostro è un arrivederci, grazie Professore!! A presto Serena, Gabriele, Simona e Valentina.
