Return Details

Teatro La Fenice, Campo S. Fantin, 1965, 30124 Venezia VE, Italy
Originally built in the late 18th century, the opulent Teatro La Fenice opera house enjoyed many years as a gathering place for Venice’s cultural elite. Discover the venue’s fascinating history on this guided tour.

Meet your guide at the centrally located Campo San Luca for a short walk to the theater. Inside, marvel at the lavish Baroque decor as you imagine the gilded private boxes and lush velvet seats filled with an admiring, well-dressed crowd. You’ll learn about famous performances and hear stories of the legendary musicians, singers and patrons that passed through the auditorium’s walls.

The ill-fated theater burned to the ground on two separate occasions and has been returned to its former splendor by painstaking restoration work. The name ‘La Fenice’ means ‘phoenix’ in Italian — a fitting moniker for this icon that has twice risen from the ashes. Learn about the multimillion dollar renovation and ask any burning questions before bidding ciao to the theater at the end of your tour.

Disappointed with this tour.

There were too many people in the tour group, and we could hear the guide only if we were standing next to her. We had an opportunity to see the boxes in which the audience sits and the view down into the theater interior, but there were so many of us that it was rushed and crowded. I think a person would be much better off renting an audio guide and doing a self guided tour.

I think we would have gotten just as much out of renting the audio tours as we did from this tour with a guide. It would have been a lot less expensive as well.

This was a waste of time. We had trouble finding our way to the office and the lady was definitely NOT helpful when I rang to ask about the meeting place. It was only thanks to a very kind man in a souvenir shop that we found it at all. We should have been able to meet at the Opera House. We loved the Opera House but would recommend just going to the Opera House and booking a tour when there.

The tour was very poor. I guess getting the audio tour and paying the entrance fees would be as satisfactory as the guided tour, or even better. The guide was not friendly and was patientless. As said the information she delivered was very shallow. We had to meet her at some farther place than the opera and than to walk with her to thr opera house. To the question why we had to do that useless trip, she said :because I am not a secretary. and i cannot record the people who attend. She rushed thru the streets and we got to the opera breathless.

Wonderful place and interesting history of this Opera House, explained by Laura, our guide. Better if you also can buy tickets for a music show.

First of all, it was really difficult finding the meeting place, even with GPS. After phoning the tour operator, my husband and I went straight to the theatre which we could find and met the group there. The theatre is very nice, but we were not allowed to tour backstage at all, and the guide seemed quite dispassionate and appeared to not really want to be there. It wasn't worth racing through a very crowded Venice to take this tour.
