Explore the incredible marine life near Vancouver during this half-day whale watching cruise in search of orcas and much more. If you’re a nature lover or simply looking for a way to immerse yourself in the scenic beautiful of the western coast of Canada, this excursion is a great option.

Start your whale watching trip with pickup from select Vancouver hotels or by meeting at Steveston Village where your boat departs. A shuttle transports guests from nine convenient hotel locations in Vancouver, and free parking is available for those arriving by car. Depending on the option you select, your cruise may leave in morning or afternoon. Check with your tour operator during reconfirmation on your exact schedule.

Then climb aboard your sleek, modern whale watching vessel. The high-speed zodiacs used on the trip offer both an open-air deck and a covered cabin, ensuring a comfortable ride no matter the conditions. On-board hydrophones also allow you the chance to hear the whale calls of any orcas encountered along the way, and handy photo ID charts help you identify different species of animal.

Soon your boat cruises out into the waters of coastal British Columbia. The area for your excursion is renowned for the killer whale pods that come to feed on the spawning salmon in the area between May and October each year. During your ride, listen as the naturalist shares insights into orca behavior, and helps you spot for a variety of creatures. Three pods of killer whales, totaling around 80 animals, reliably return to this area annually, making it more likely you have a sighting. Keep your eyes peeled for the orca old-timer named ‘Granny,’ who many believe is more than 100 years old.

Guaranteed whale sightings or your next trip is free.

We made the memories of a lifetime! The captain and crew were both wonderful in ensuring the best possible experience. The two whales we saw came in very close and they even performed a bit of a show! We had a fantastic experience that the kids will remember fondly.

What a fantastic trip! We were well-Informed pre-trip about what to expect. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable, and the whales did not disappoint! They came so close, we could feel the spray! It was a wonderful day, and money well spent!

Humpback Whale Watching + Sea Lions + Seals
Roy_H
, Sep 2021
The humpback whales are a pleasure to see, though they are quite far away and my phone only captured low quality photographs from that distance :( Anyways there were also cute sea lions and seals, and the boat ride was fun. Our excellent guide, Sue, made sure that we all enjoyed our visit and provided lots of information about these mammals.

Whale watching escapade 2021
Erlinda_A
, Aug 2021
Grateful to the guide for checking how everyone is doing. Enjoyed the show put on by the humpbacks(though they're not that close enough-because of distance restriction?). The sea lions were wonderful and this time, they are closer for all to see and enjoy. We are seated at the front , which others may find challenging specially when the waters are not so calm( you will be pre-advised of course that the waters can be a little rough so it's a personal choice). Over all, we enjoyed it.

Hello Erlinda, Thank you for leaving us a review! We are so thrilled to hear you enjoyed your trip with us and that you got the chance to see some Humpback Whales. We do have to follow the government-laid-out regulations when watching whales, so that is correct we can only approach them at a certain distance. We thank you for choosing Vancouver Whale Watch! Kindly,

Fun honeymoon experience

, Aug 2021
The host was wonderful, she was very knowledgeable and very kind. The start of the trip was lots of fun, unfortunately we spent a long time waiting and did not get to see much of the whales. It was a fun experience but I wouldn’t jump to do it again.

Hello Calvin, Thank you for your review. We are so thrilled to hear that you found your wildlife guide knowledgeable and kind. When you view animals in the wild it is always a new experience daily. So we can't predict what we will see each day and what the whales activity will be. We are happy to hear that you had a fun experience while out with us however. Thank you for choosing Vancouver Whale Watch! Kindly,

Fabulous and once in a lifetime experience. We saw three whales and seals and sea lions. The boats were very comfortable and clean. The crew was very knowledgable, interactive, social and helpful. The people at the office were very helpful too. Having the washrooms on the boat was very helpful.

Orcas in the rain - loved it!
Rainsoaked_in_BC
, Aug 2021
Saw orcas. That was the objective! Good: staff very responsive to email inquiries prior to departure, very helpful in my effort to part the car, very honest in getting me a cheaper rate, very patient to get everyone on board, very good explanations during tour, very knowledgeable. Bad: it rained almost the entire time - in August. This is normal for BC. But knowing that doesn't make it any more enjoyable. Make sure to pack and plan for this reality.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We are so thrilled to hear you had a good experience with us and that you got to see Orcas as you had hoped! We definitely do get a lot of rain in B.C. so we always recommend people dress warmly and in layers. Typically we do get very lucky with weather as even though its raining on the mainland, it doesn't mean it will be raining out on the water. Thank you for choosing Vancouver Whale Watch! Kindly,
