Begin with dawn pickup from your Göreme, Uçhisar or Ürgüp hotel, and travel to the hot air balloon launch site.
Following a light breakfast, board your piloted balloon, and ascend above Cappadocia’s lunar-like landscapes. Absorb the incredible views of the sculpted valleys below, capturing them on camera as the sun illuminates them in soft reds and pinks.
After at least an hour in the air, touch down and celebrate your experience with a glass of champagne. Then, transfer back to your hotel for breakfast and two or three hours’ free time before a second hotel pickup by air-conditioned vehicle kicks off your tour of some of Cappadocia’s highlights.
Stop first at the Red and Rose Valleys for a guided walk. Trek along these spectacular valleys, admiring the multi-colored cliffs and rock pinnacles as you learn how they’ve formed through the ages. Pass painted cave churches and mushroom-shaped formations known as ‘fairy chimneys’, and trace winding pathways through fragrant orchards and vineyards.
After your roughly 2.5 mile (4-kilometer) walk, arrive in the town of Cavusin, home to a stunning rock castle and cave dwellings inhabited up until the 20th century.
Savor lunch at a restaurant, and then travel to the underground city of Kaymakli. Carved about 131 feet (40 meters) underground, this maze-like city consists of stables, cellars, storage chambers, refectories and even churches. Explore inside, and learn how the complex was used by Christians during the 2nd and 3rd centuries to hide from Roman forces.
Afterward, continue to Pigeon Valley, where the rock cliffs and landscapes are speckled with pigeon houses, abandoned cave homes, and houses built by Greek communities. Then, finish with a visit to the town of Ortahisar, famous for its towering rock castle, known as Cappadocia’s highest fairy chimney.
Your trip then concludes with a hotel drop-off.
