The crew was awesome, food was great, and drinks were strong. The sunset was beautiful and we even saw some dolphins. The snorkeling was uneventful. There wasn't much to see. They should find a different location for this part.

Fun time out on the water

Great afternoon out on the water. Snorkeling wasn't amazing, but the beach was nice, and boat trip w/ bar was amazing. Does get a little rowdy with the open bar, but we had a great time!

We took the tour out of Tamarindo. There is a parking lot right outside of the restaurant that charged us $10US to park for the day. We then met our guides on the beach and they took a group of us on a small boat to the catamaran. We boarded the catamaran and had drinks while 3 more loads of people came by boat. At first we thought it might feel crowded but at no point did we feel this. As a matter of fact, we all had a place to sit and enjoy the views. We sailed for a bit and saw dolphins playing in the surf. We then found our snorkeling spot and anchored. Unfortunately on the day we went, the visibility underwater wasn’t great…guides said we would have to dive down about 5-10feet to see anything so we just dove off of the boat and enjoyed the water on a noodle. We watched as our kids and others dove over and over again off the hull of the boat. They had a great time! Then we went in to enjoy a lovely lunch of delicious chicken, beans, rice, fruit and chips. The food was delicious and the drinks were top notch (not the mass produced rum punch that you get on other tours). I had Jack Daniels so I was content! We then headed back and watched an amazing sunset from the boat. It was a great day on the water! Thank you to the staff on the boat who were constantly working and cleaning to make everyone feel comfortable! Pura vida 🇨🇷

Better off looking at the sunset from the beach

Nice boat. Long ride. Unhappy personal. Crowded. Good food. The ocean was too agitated and therefore no snorkeling or even swimming was pleasurable. I wish people would have been asked to disinfect their hands before serving themselves at the buffet.

Great day on the catamaran, very relaxing, great crew and food. The snorkelling is ok, it isn’t the main attraction of this tour, this is really about chilling on the water and enjoy ana amazing sunset. Highly recommend.

We loved it! Beautiful forest ride. Great guide who gave a lot of info about the forest. The hot springs were also fun. The weather in this part of the country at this time of year was breezy and pleasant. It was fun putting the mud on and rinsing it off. Great day!

    Great boat, bad food
    Daena_L
    , Feb 2022
Great Time in the sun meeting new people. The boat is a lovely size for everyone, for instance, the dolphin looks super cramped. Drinks were nice, however for $110 felt kind of ripped off as the food was rice and frio sauce and cheetos. Could have done a pasta salad or gallo pinto, costa rica has lots of food to eat. So I was really upset and so hungry when I got off the boat.

Incredible views and cruise. While sailing we had everything we could need and a full staff eager to assist. There was zero boredom and while the visibility was poor for snorkeling, it didn’t keep us from swimming with a pool noodle! The best part of the trip was sailing alongside Pilar whales that swam with our wake. Definitely a memorable and amazing experience.

    Lack of Covid Safety Procedures
    Paula_F
    , Jan 2022
The Marlin del Rey Catamaran Snorkel Sunset tour advertised certain Covid procedures such as masks , hand sanitizer, and social distancing . Unfortunately none of these procedures were followed during the boarding of the Catamaran. The tour company also advertised reduced capacity but this was definitely not the case on the dinghies that transported passengers to the boat. After hearing passengers bragging about their unvaccinated status prior to boarding the boat, the tour operators packed the dinghies like sardines and then hauled them to the Catamaran. At that point, we opted out of getting on the dinghies as we did not feel it was safe especially because we were traveling with a type 1 diabetic child . We immediately requested a refund from both the tour operator Natives Way Costa Rica and Viator but they denied our request despite all of the evidence of false advertising along with a lack of basic covid safety procedures and the consequential danger to our family . There were 10 of us who did not feel safe to board the boat with the amount of people boarding and to this date they still have denied our refund request . At one point, one of the customer service reps from Viator said they would not give us a refund because we could have left the diabetic child behind and gone on the boat . Although the diabetic child was the most at risk none of us felt it was safe without any type of basic Covid safety procedures . After spending 2 weeks in Costa Rica and feeling very covid safe this was our first and only bad experience in Costa Rica .

    HIGHLIGHT OF COSTA RICA!
    Mary_L
    , Jan 2022
My sister and I did this excursion while visiting Costa Rica for 5 days and it was the HIGHLIGHT of our entire trip! We saw a humpback whale breach and heard them talking while we were underwater snorkeling. Everyone on the boat, crew and other visitors, were so friendly. We had a great time getting to know other travelers who we actually exchanged numbers with and met up with at another beach. They had vegan rice and beans, and lots of delicious top shelf cocktails on board. I wanted to do this every other afternoon we were there. This is a must do experience!

If you want to see the untouched beauty of the coast this is your tour. We also saw whales thanks to captain Andre and his good eye we got right up close! The food was great as was the drinks and service. The sunset was the topping on the cake. Thanks team at Marlin del Rey it was absolutely delightful.

    Good not great

Experience was good not great. Crew was phenomenal, lots of fun people on board. One person on board was belligerent and disgusting. Making sexual innuendos towards my wife. Deserved a punch in the face. Overall, sunset was gorgeous and wish some folks had social awareness to not be gross.

    Sunset Booze Cruise Fun!
    Richard_L
    , Jul 2021
The crew was fun and friendly. The food and drinks were delicious. We saw dolphins and turtles from the boat, and found a few pretty fish when snorkeling. It’s a great way to meet people if your staying in town for 2 or more weeks. I wouldn’t recommend bringing babies or young kids. There’s not much for them to do until the boat stops, which is only for an hour. Overall, it was a great time!!
