Meet your knowledgeable guide at the tourist information office in the middle of Strasbourg, where you’ll climb into a comfortable minivan to start your tour. Head out along the Alsace Wine Route (Routes des Vins d’Alsace in French), which is a 105-mile (170-km) route winding through the rolling hills at the base of the Vosges Mountains. This area is home to hundreds of famous vineyards.

The first stop on your wine tour is the wine area called Mittelbergheim, where the grands crus of Kastelberg, Zotzenberg and Wiebelsberg are located. This area is known for its excellent Riesling wines, which are typically thought of as German. At the first winery of your tour, sample Riesling along with some sylvaner and pinot blanc.

Next, head for Dambach-la-Ville. This village produces more wine than any other in Alsace, including one of the finest Alsatian wines of all — frankstein grand cru. At the second winery stop of the tour, sample wines in a classic wine cellar (caveau in French) while learning how the region’s soil and climate combine to produce exceptional Riesling and gewürztraminer wines.

Take a break at midday for lunch (own expense), followed by a visit to the Ribeauvillé-Riquewihr wine area. There are five grands cru here — Kirchberg, Osterberg, Geisberg, Schoenenbourg and Sporen. Here again you’ll find the wine production is dominated by Riesling, although other wines of note include Muscat, gewürztraminer and pinot gris.

Spend some time in the charming villages of Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr, where you’ll have your last two wine tasting sessions at two of the best-loved wineries in the Alsace. Hear about how some of the chateaux making wine in the area — such as the Hugel and Trimbach families — have been making wine in the area for hundreds of years.

At the conclusion of a day-long wine tour through the Alsace, climb back into the minivan for the relaxing ride back to Strasbourg.

Alsace Wine Tastingr from Strasbourg

Be sure to book the longer tour. [about 8 hour] It's Worth it. We visited 3 wineries with up to 6 wines at each. The tour guide spoke excellent English, was humerus and quite knowledgeable of the region. We passed trough several villages with lunch in one. The van stopped near attractions, which minimized walking.

Great Wine Tour - a highlight of our trip

This tour was excellent. The 3 wineries were quite different from each other & the tastings were numerous - at least 10 at each stop. The drive itself was so picturesque & our guide stopped at her favorite vistas for photo ops. Our lunch stop in Riquewihr, a truly charming town along the route, was just perfect. We enjoyed the local wines so much that we purchased a dozen bottles & shipped them back to the US.

Worth the money

Our guide was great and we enjoyed that a real effort was made to visit different types of producers and sample as many styles of Alsatian wine as possible. A truly wonderful experience. Our only advice would to be consider bringing a lunch, as sit-down service in the region is generally not fast enough to get a full meal during the lunch break regardless and it would give you some time to explore (and walk some of the plentiful wine off).

Tour Of The Countryside

We took this shared toured, leaving Strasbourg and traveling through the absolutely beautiful farmland country side. Our first stop was in Obernai, visiting a traditional vintner. Our second stop was in Scherwiller at a vintner engaged in organic and bio-dynamic winemaking - quite interesting. Our tour guide took us to Riquewihr for lunch - one of the most beautiful of these small towns built on the slopes of the Vosges mountains. Our final stop was outside of the village of Bergheim for discussions with a passionate vintner showing us the actual rock through with the grapes were growing. Our tour guide, Simon, was fluent and friendly, keeping the entire party engaged in the conversations and sights. This was our tour of the countryside and we were not disappointed. Highly recommended.

Excellent Tour

Our guide, Danielle was extremely well qualified, knowledgeable about the region, from a geographic and historical standpoint. We visited three distinctly different wineries, the first was a relatively small family owned house, operated in the traditional Alsatian methods. The second was also a family owned operation, but with a younger generation experimenting and implementing new ideas. The third was one of the larger wineries in the region with an extremely long history of producing excellent wines. We had lunch, on our own, in a quaint village. All in all, a lovely way to spend a day exploring Alsace.

Private tastings at 3 great wineries. Each one better than the previous. Owners shared their thoughts on the wines they made and shared.

An Outstanding day in beautiful Alace

On Tuesday 4 June I and two Japanese gentlemen joined Laurent on the Alsace Wine Route. What made this tour special was the opportunity to visit family wineries and taste some superb Alsace wines. A standout were the wines of the Family Blanck and I also enjoyed very much the wines of Sylvie Spielmann and her passionate approach to the wines she makes. Laurent was an excellent guide and very kind to me personally. My mother’s forebears originated from Alsace and her father was born in Sermersheim. It meant a great deal to me that Laurent was prepared to make the small detour from the main highway so that we could drive through Sermersheim on the return to Strasbourg. I am travelling on my own and pI did not feel confident to hire a car. This meant that I could not visit Sermersheim as there is no bus service and the train does not stop there. It meant so much to me to see the town of my grandfather’s birth even if very briefly. Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to Laurent. Beautiful Alsace, top quality wines for which Alsace is renowned and my grandfather’s village. Who could ask for anything more. Thank you for a special day.
