Returns to original departure point
Your walking tour starts in Chinatown, where you’ll meet your guide and head to your first stop, the Chinatown Complex, the biggest  hawker center in the city (hawker centers are a type of indoor or outdoor Asian food market where different stalls sell a variety of dishes).

Follow your guide through the center’s maze of 220-plus stalls to find the best food items on offer, such as poh piah (fresh spring rolls) or Singaporean chicken rice, accompanied by fresh-squeezed sugar cane juice. While you eat, learn how hawker centers began in Singapore from your guide, who can answer any questions you may have about the food you’re sampling and how it’s made.

Next, walk down the streets of Chinatown, listening to stories about the neighborhood's early immigrants, and pass by religious sites like Hindu temples and mosques. Cool off with a stop at the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) gallery, where you'll learn how city planners transformed Singapore from a fishing village to a cosmopolitan city.

Finally, enjoy a sample of kopi tarik or teh tarik—‘pulled’ coffee or tea made with condensed milk and poured between two cups until it’s super frothy. You’ll sip it with tasting of roti prate (pancake-style bread) before returning to your starting point, where your tour ends.

This tour was an excellent introduction to the Hawker Center experience. We learned about the history and practices of Hawker Centers in Singapore and were able to try many dishes. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly as he guided us throughout the center and various parts of Chinatown. I'd definitely recommend it.

An excellent way to get a taste of where to go and what the best meals were. Fantastic guide who gave us a tour of Chinatown and explained the history and culture. The food was very good, you get to taste many dishes that on your own you would probably not try and see how the dishes are prepared.

This was a great tour to experience the food of the Hawker Markets without the fuss of choosing where to go. There are so many different outlets it would be difficult to decide where to eat, but the guide answers that question well. There were plenty of different things to try and he caters for all different likes and dislikes. He combines the food tour with elements of social customs and history which makes things a little more interesting. Overall it was very good, would recommend.

Chinatown tour was much more than just a food tour. I loved visiting the Singapore visitor Centre and learning about the history of Singapore and the way the government plan development way into the future. Also, the way the rubbish is dealt with and the reclaimed land. There was lots of food to try and it was good to be with a guide to try our different food stalls before trying some more out on our own. Would recommend this tour.

Ive been on a LOT of tours and this is hands down in my top 3. Rene is the BEST tour guide Ive ever had. Not only did I try foods I never would have tried on my own that were delicious by the way but we also visited the farmers market wet market area of the Chinatown Complex which was colorful and interesting. My favorite part of the tour was the Singapore City Gallery. Learning about the Singapore people, culture and history was fascinating. There was a large model of the city that was really helpful to me to visualize how everything is laid out. Take this tour early in your visit to Singapore if possible as Rene will give you lots of tips and ideas of other non-touristy places to visit. I absolutely loved this tour.
