Meet your guide at a central meeting point and then begin your walking tour of the historic Kampong Glam neighborhood. While you walk, listen to your guide’s fascinating expert commentary about the sultans who ruled Singapore before the country became a British colony.

Wander down narrow side streets, learning about the neighborhood’s history as home to the local aristocracy before the British East India Company set up its Singapore trading post in an attempt to control the spice trade. Discover remnants of the indigenous culture here, including Indonesian medicine, Malay folk traditions, Arabic goods, and Islamic legends. Visit the old royal palace, known as the Istana Kampong Glam, which is now the Malay Heritage Centre.

The highlight of your tour is a visit to Sultan Mosque, one of Singapore’s most prominent religious sites, recognized by its gold onion domes. Admire its architecture and learn a bit about its history, which dates back to 1824; the structure was rebuilt around 1930.

When your tour ends, you are free to continue exploring on your own.

It was an interesting tour not only from a historical point of view, but also as one that gives the possibility of getting to know the modern life of the amazing city where people from different religions live side by side. And from the first glance live in real cooperation so rare in the modern world. Special thanks to the tour guide Mrs. Hemlata that not only told about the history of the district and the entire city, but also shared the perception of the local residents of that.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the cultural aspects of each of the areas we passed through. It was time well spent, with an introduction of other areas for shopping and food that we could come back to and enjoy at our leisure. I would recommend the tour, however bear in mind it is hot and you need to heed the advice of good walking shoes, hat and water. Good value, would recommend to others.

Excellent guide and easy walking pace. Gained Insight into history of architecture, Islam and royalty of old. Taken to a couple of good value retailers in Arabic area, including a perfume-maker. Guide saw us back to train station where tour started and gave assistance to those who were unsure of how to use rail system, or what sights were nearby to explore by self.

Lye Nak our tour guide was excellent! She spoke perfect English, was upbeat, knowledgable, prepared and welcoming. I have been to Singapore on a few occasions and wanted to concentrate more time in the Kampong Glam district. This tour was perfect for what I was looking for. Lye Nak was excellent in sharing the history of Singapore, the Kampong Glam district, the Sultan Mosque and the cultural tolerance that is apparent throughout this area during our morning walk
