Trolley - Excellent, Skip the Riverboat
Angela_F
, Apr 2021
We really loved the Trolley Tour and Benjamin was a fantastic guide! He was energetic and really passionate about his Savannah history! It was a perfect amount of time and we got to see things that were a little further outside the riverfront area. However, I would skip the Riverboat Cruise for sure. It is handled by a completely different company - you had to stop on the riverfront to get tickets and then wait in a super long line to board. By the time we got on board, all the outside seats on the top deck were taken so we were stuck in a smelly inside dining room where most folks were more interested in getting drinks than listening to the guide. There's not much scenery to take in on the river either. Do the Trolley tour only and spend the other 2 hours doing something else!

Two separate tours: sea portion was great.

These are basically two separate unrelated outings that you’re purchasing as a package; after the land tour you had to go exchange a voucher for a boat ticket. The land portion was a 90 minute open air trolley ride around the city. A nice way to see the city, but not a lot of background or information or history in context (more just pointing out landmarks) and the driver did not have answers to many questions and was not knowledgeable about the sea portion or other tours that many of us had purchased as a package. He spent a lot of time making negative (often sarcastic) comments about things that were not available due to pandemic protocols rather than highlighting the many things that WERE available. (Those conscious of such things should be aware despite advertising following CDC guidelines, neither the driver nor many of the other passengers on the small open air trolley kept their masks on.) The boat ride was terrific, though- also 90 minutes (of note, the first sailing was at 1 pm regardless of what time you had the morning tour.) It sailed up and down the river with colorful history of the city and architecture and culture. There was a bar and snack bar available with a variety of food options for those who wanted it. (We had plenty of time for a nice sit down outdoor restaurant lunch near the boat between the 9:30 land and 1:00 sea excursions.) Our boat boarded on time but ended up leaving 40 minutes late due to a medical emergency just as we were about to depart, but they handled it well and still provided the full length tour. Would definitely do the sea portion again; not so sure about the land.

Trolley Tour A grade; Riverboat Tour B- grade
Daven_D
, Apr 2021
The trolley tour was great information wise. The tour guide was funny and made it enjoyable though her humor is not for the weak and is a very special type of humor that not everyone likes. LOL otherwise, A for the trolley tour. The riverboat cruise was fine. I was kind of bored by the tour guide but the views were beautiful and I even saw a dolphin! My favorite part was learning about the brackish water and what kind of creatures come around. I’d give the riverboat cruise a B-.

You got to see a dolphin in the Savannah River? How cool! As for our tour guides, they all have the freedom to create their own trolley tour, which certainly leads to a unique experience every time. We appreciate the feedback and hope to see you again next time!

Land tour is a must see. Not so much the river cruise.
Thomas_M
, Apr 2021
We did the land/river tour. It takes about 4 1/2 hours, they left late on both tours. The land tour was excellent, informative and funny. The river cruise tour we could of skipped. It covered a lot of the narrative the land tour did and it was not scenic by any means. Seen only junk and industry stuff. Overall, the people were kind and nothing but professional.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! We are pleased to hear you had such a good time on the trolley with our expert guide. The riverboat cruise is offered by a separate company than us, so I'll be sure to pass along your comments. Have a wonderful day!

My most memorable part of my stay is how helpful the tour guides, transportation providers and the hotel concierge; were in correcting the confusion that Viator made with my scheduled tours.

Disappointing, but not the tour guides fault.

Not being able to have lunch at the Crab Shack. Viator needs to be better at scheduling events. Nothing the driver tour guide did wrong.
icon Response from Host , Apr 2021
We are sorry to hear of the scheduling difficulties on your tour, and are actively working to find a solution that will prevent this from happening in the future. Our guides work hard to provide an excellent experience and we do hope you enjoyed the rest of your dolphin tour. Thank you for the feedback!

Land/sea tour

Guide to land tour was very knowledgeable and made us laugh. Sea tour was a nice way to learn about the city from a different view. The only problem was they had one Bartender. It took 45 minutes waiting in line just to order drinks and an appetizer.
icon Response from Host , Apr 2021
The Land and Sea Combo is great way to see Savannah in two totally different ways! Sorry to hear about your wait on the riverboat. As this tour is offered by our partner, I will pass your comments along to their management team. Thank you for the feedback!

Dan took us to areas of Savannah we had not been with other tour companies. The riverboat was relaxing

We are the only company in town that tours through the Starland District, which is totally unique from the Landmark Historic District. Happy to hear you enjoyed it! Riding the riverboat is like cruising along a lazy river. They don't call us "Slow-vannah" for nothing! Thanks for the review.
