Accessible only by foot, Manuel Antonio National Park is a protected tropical reserve featuring white sandy beaches, lush rain forest, and crystal-clear turquoise water. Your full-day tour of this tropical paradise begins with early morning pickup from your San Jose hotel to maximize your time at the park. Stop for breakfast along the way, and enjoy the scenic drive past picturesque villages and the dramatic scenery of the Pacific coastline.

Hop out of the air-conditioned vehicle at the park entrance near the port of Quepos. No vehicles are allowed inside Manuel Antonio to preserve the area’s natural beauty and delicate ecosystem. Enjoy an easy, flat hike through the rain forest to arrive at a gorgeous crescent-shaped beach. The afternoon is yours to spend as you wish. Drop a towel and soak up the sun along the beach’s pristine white sand, and cool off with a swim in the clear, warm waters of the Pacific.

Wander through jungle trails on your own, or join a guided nature hike to learn about the park’s incredible biodiversity. Be prepared to encounter many wild residents, including monkeys, sloths, tropical birds, and iguanas. Get your blood pumping with a hike to Cathedral Point, where you can soak in a breathtaking perspective of the ocean, shore, and forest.

Depart the park before dusk, and watch a memorable sunset over the Pacific on the return drive to your San Jose hotel.

Swimming and Hiking Paradise

Manuel Antonio National Park was phenomenal because of the animals and scenery. Personally, I think Espadilla Beach is the best because of its strong waves, amazing rocks, and just beautiful state. Manuel Antonio beach is usually more occupied, but still a beautiful beach. Playas Gemelas are great tiny beaches, however, it is very rocky even for a beach lover this myself. I recommend booking this trip if you want to spend 4 hours hiking through beautiful trails and swimming in amazing coastlines. Only downside: Our tour guide was incredibly chatty and it became a bit much for me. I had to put my headphones in because I needed a break. I want to underscore that this is a personal preference and some may have enjoyed all the commentary. Personally, it was just a lot.

This trip was taken during the pandemic. Day started at 7:15AM pickup from holiday Inn hotel, the driver arrived at 7:05. We picked up 3 other people for a total of 4 people total. We drove for about an hour and a half where we stopped for food (breakfast), which was pretty good. Than we drove non stop for another hour and a half until we arrived at the National Park. So about 3.5 hours to get there including breakfast. We chose our food when we got there (lunch) for after we were done. The guide walked us up to a certain point, where he cut us loose to do what we wanted. We had a total of nearly 5 hours to do what we wanted. Our group stuck together and we hiked some trails and went to the beach. We had about 2 hours to spare after we finished then hikes and swam for an hour. Unfortunately for us some of the hiking trails were closed due to the storm that hit a week before and the trails were blocked by fallen trees. No fault of the tour company. We hit back the restaurant at 4pm where we ate lunch which was actually pretty good. 3 hours later we were back in San jose. Picked up 7:05AM Dropped off: 7:30PM Full day experience. Could have been better if the trails were open but we still had a great time. The tour guide himself was pretty friendly, although his English could be better. I still understood fine either it probably was his Latin American accent.

National Park and Beach

This was an amazing day trip. Our tour guide was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in all the areas we visited. We stopped at various places whilst on route to the National Park including the Alligator Bridge, and other lovely scenic views. After a tour around the National Park, we was also able to spend several hours on the beach which was beautiful. A long day but I would highly recommend it.

Excellent beach but long and boring bus ride
, Feb 2020
I enjoyed the beautiful beach at the national park but the tour was 12 hours long and we were at the beach for only 3 of those hours and the rest of the time was spent mainly on the bus. There was not much education on Costa Rica or about the national park during the tour. The breakfast was good but the lunch was not.

Great tour and very fun! The tour guide Arlene was very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Breakfast and lunch was excellent. I recommend bringing bug spray since you will be hiking in the park. The hike is an easy walk. I did the hiking walk with Arlene and other tourists and she helped to point out monkeys and sloths. I got some great photos of the monkeys. I also saw deer on the hike. Bottled water, a sandwich, and apple was provided to us when we arrived at the park. You will need the extra food for energy because it is hot during the hike before lunch. Great scenery along the route to the park. I highly recommend this tour.
Skip Manuel Antonio Natl Park from San Jose

Over 10 hours in the tour bus to enjoy 4 hours at the park, I would not recommend this activity if leaving from San Jose. The meals included were average, the tour guide was not pleasant, she refused to respond to very basic questions, she treated the group like preschoolers.
A day Trip which packs in A LOT
, Feb 2020
We had a SUPER day trip with our guide Alex. It is a very long day ...7am till close to 9pm but packs in so much. The tour starts and finishes with hotel pick up/drop off in San Jose. A straight drive to Arnel Volcano would be 3 to 4 hours but we did a variety of things on the way to break up the journey and make it very interesting. We visited a coffee plantation, stopped for a mid morning snack and to see birds close up, saw a variety of waterfalls and a nice lunch. We choose to do zipp lining which lasted 1.5 hours and had 9 lines through the rain forest..... our first time doing this and not to be missed. We finished with about 1.5 hours at a hot spring. Then it was the long drive back to San Jose with a stop for dinner on the way.

Manuel Antonio Day Trip is a great experience if you have never been. It has lovely beaches and short trails in which to experience the tranquility of this lovely region. Although there are many people, you can still find a comfortable place to set your towel. When I was walking the trails, El Catedral especially, I encountered very few people. The Viator Tour is very good, as well, especially the quality of the food. I would recommend.
