Meeting point: At the bottom of the steps across the street from the Entrance of the Vatican Museums. The steps are located right next to Caffè Vaticano on the corner of Viale Vaticano and Via Tunisi. The closest Metro stop is Line A (Ottaviano – Musei Vaticani).

Sistine Chapel , 00120, Vatican City
Vatican tours with skip-the-line access are sought-after, so even the fast-track lines are long. This experience includes admission through a special entrance, so there are no lines whatsoever. Follow your guide directly inside the vast collection of private artwork that is the Vatican Museums.

Walk through the Gallery of the Maps and Gallery of Tapestries as you listen to tales of Vatican intrigue. Gaze at artifacts such as timeworn yet fascinating Italian maps, and admire the sculptures and candelabras of the Gallery of Candelabras. Stop for photos in front of the Pigna statue in the Pinecone Courtyard, designed by Donato Bramante.

Raphael’s Rooms are a series of galleries that highlight the talent of the lauded Renaissance artist himself. Pass through the rooms, and then step inside the Sistine Chapel—the pope’s personal place of worship and a highlight of any Vatican trip. Stand beneath Michelangelo’s 'The Creation of Adam,' which cloaks the ceiling, and admire 'The Last Judgement,' his colorful mural that adorns a wall.

After your Sistine Chapel visit, continue to St. Peter’s Basilica, the symbolic heart of the Catholic church. Learn about its history and see more Vatican art including Michelangelo’s 'La Pietà,' which was sculpted when the maestro was only 24 years old. Gaze at the baldachino by Bernini, and then say goodbye to your guide in St. Peter’s Square.

Keep in mind that St. Peter's Basilica and St. Peter's Square might be unavailable on Wednesdays due to the weekly Papal Audience. As an alternative, enjoy an extended itinerary within the Vatican Museums, which still includes the Sistine Chapel and Raphael's Rooms. If you want to make sure that St. Peter's Basilica and Square are included in your tour, don't select Wednesday as your travel date.

If you want to enhance your Vatican experience, select one of the following experiences:

Small-Group Tour in the morning: Enter the Vatican Museums as soon as it opens, before the other lines enter. Your tour is limited to 10 people for personal attention and information about the Vatican’s must-see sights.

Tour in the evening: Explore the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel after the doors close to the general public. A visit to St. Peter’s Basilica is not included.

Patrick was the best!
Bushra_A
, Aug 2022
Patrick was the best thing that happened to me in this vacation. He was knowledgeable, wasn’t rushing us, really enjoyed history and instilled in me a passion for each of the things he explained. He not only explained the museums really well, he also directed us towards the basilica which wasn’t part of the tour. So I was able to see all the bucket list items in one go. Patrick was really the BEST GUIDE I could’ve asked for. And skipping the line is REALLY skipping lines, I thought we would still be in lines but he took care of everything. Would love to go back and take the same tour again, if you’re on the fence, get it!!!

Bad experience

We had tour on aug 6th sat, 2022 at 3pm. The guide instead of asking understanding what the customers preferred was doing her own thing. Quite a few of other people in group basically left the tour halfway

The guide was nice and Knowledgeable. It filled out expectations. The museum was very crowded and no A/C. Better to go in other time of the year.

Our tour guide was rushing through the museum like crazy, some of the group left because of this early. The headsets had a very short range, so if you could not keep step with our speedy guide you couldn’t hear her… not worth it. Better take your time inside on your own.

Overcrowded and hot

Wonderful tour guide with a wealth of knowledge! Sadly, the museum was so over crowded and hot that much of the museum was difficult to enjoy. Places to sit and get water would be helpful in the summer months.

Parallax Effect at Vatican Museum

The parallax effect of Jesus looking at us and the table turning towards us was unbelievable. Our Tour Guide from City Wonders Ltd, Cristian, was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and funny!

Great tour! Adriano is a rock star. Funny, smart, and kind. I've had many tour guides over the years and I can confidently say Adriano ranks in the top.

A cooler time of year not July or August

It was so hot and so crowded that my wife and I had to leave the tour for fear of passing out. I would only recommend this tour be taken at a cooler time of year.

We did a tour with Adriano who was absolutely AMAZING!! He made sure we all stayed together throughout the tour, he continuously stopped to get a head count. Adriano was extremely knowledges in everything and made sure to ask if there were any questions. Such a great experience. VERY HOT in the summer, bring a fan/ ice pack/ cooling towel, etc.

Waste of money.
Zoran_T
, Aug 2022
The guide dragged out the tour, the headsets didn’t work the whole time, they were scratchy and cutting in and out even when standing very close to the guide. As the guide knew how hot it was she didn’t take this into consideration when explaining the history, kept dragging & dragging on. Other tours would continuously pass our group. I understand as I’ve done so many so please understand what I’m explaining as it’s there to assist your company.

Very bad.

, Aug 2022
The tour lasted 1 hour even though it was suppose to be 2.5 hours. The tour guide went through the whole museum in a flash and then disappeared. I’ve done this tour twice already in the last 10 years and had excellent experiences. This one was a complete waste of money and time.

World full of knowledge

Amazing tour and guide. Highly recommend this tour if you are wanting to get just the Vatican and Sistine Chapel in. We ended up going to St. Peter’s Basilica afterwards which I also highly recommend! If you can get a package that includes that church as well you should do it. I prefer to have the history of the things I’m touring/viewing. So informative and interesting.

Ran a few minutes behind. Got a call saying they were waiting only 5 min. Got there before the 5 minutes and group was gone. Asked to be out with another group tour said no. Did not refund or give me any sort of credit. HORRIBLE.

I’ve been to the Vatican before and this second visit really emphasized the importance and value of having a really good tour guide. This time was not good. The guide was insanely rushed and not very engaging in how they told the stories. Even with a headphone in one ear the guide’s mic picked up so much room noise that it made it very difficult to hear in such small, crowded spaces. The 3:45 tour rushed because the guide had to córrale the group into the Sistine chapel by a specific time. Avoid going at this time. Then the tour ended very abruptly and there was no additional information on what else to see or how to get to St. Peter’s Basilica or even to the impressive courtyard (tour begins and ends from side street entrance). It was an unpleasant and unimpressive experience. It’s seems as though booking this way means you’re rolling the dice in terms of your guide quality. I’d recommend booking a more private tour perhaps through Airbnb for similar price and not having to move like a herd of cattle with a group.
