Why Travelers Choose This Tour

Enter the Colosseum by the arena floor, and visit Palatine Hill and the Forum.
Your tour begins by meeting your guide at the local tour office near the Colosseum; then walk to the special entrance reserved for members of this tour.

Skip the regular lines and maximize your time at the Colosseum as you enter the amphitheater directly onto the arena floor, where gladiators and wild animals engaged in bloody fights. Visit the ring overlooking the underground sections of the Colosseum, and learn about its history from your guide, who has a degree in either art history or archaeology. Listen to anecdotes about the glory days of the arena and the lives of the emperors and senators of the time.

Next, leave the Colosseum and walk to Palatine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, where emperors and other wealthy residents lived. Take in the view of the Roman Forum and Circus Maximus, and then walk down the hill to explore the ruins of the forum, where your guide shares more stories and uses books and 3D pictures to show you how the site looked during the days of Ancient Rome. Your tour ends with return to your starting point.

Whistle stop tour of the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and The Colosseum!
Zed
, Mar 2020
I can highly recommend this three hour tour that takes in the 'Roman Forum', 'Palatine Hill' and lastly the 'Colosseum'. Before starting this tour make sure you have sensible footwear as parts of the tour take in steep hills, with uneven stones. I noticed a few ladies on our tour wearing high heels! The easiest way to get to the pick up/meeting point which is located on 'Via Frangipane, 30' is to take the metro line 'B' to 'Cavour Station', and the office is only a short five minute walk from the metro station. Once we had checked in, we were all given a headset and our tour guide Flavia told us the route we'd be taking, and what we'd be seeing. Our group was relatively small, around fifteen people. We set off and headed to the nearby 'Roman Forum'. Flavia spoke very good English, through the headsets and explained the history of Rome, it's Emperor's, it's architecture in a very cordial manner, and with a sense of humour. The ancient ruins here are very impressive. We were then led up to 'Palatine Hill', one of seven hills that surround Rome, and one of the most ancient parts of the city. Flavia then explained the history of Romulus and Remus the twin brothers who were believed to have been found in this location by a she-wolf. Flavia then led us to down the hill to the Colosseum, our final destination. Security was tight here, we had to pass through metal detectors, but we still got in relatively quickly. We entered the impressive arena at floor level and Flavia explained how the various animals and gladiators worked within the vast arena. We were then led to the higher floors of the Colosseum, be warned the steps here are very steep, so we took the easy option the elevator! Once again the views up here are stunning. Flavia then gave us her final thoughts on ancient Rome and the Colosseum. We really enjoyed the tour, but always felt Flavia was up against the clock, it's a lot of history to pack into three hours. So parts of the tour did feel a bit rushed, but overall and entertaining and informative tour.

Barbara

The tour was well organised and thoroughly enjoyable with Barbara as our guide. She was fascinating to listen to and as fit as a fiddle as she walked and talked the whole way. HOWEVER - finding the offices which was the starting point for the tour was a challenge ,even police men couldnt tell us where it was. It was not sign posted and caused unnecessary stress within our party. Directions had been given with tickets but we still couldnt find it. Tour was excellent but you should be aware that you walk for more than 3 hours. I have arthritis in my knees and found it challenging . Barbara however did what she could to make it easier by avoiding steps . Views from top of Palatine hill have to be seen , just take your time and appreciate it.
