Thanks for the trip, Howser!

Howser was a wonderful guide. His knowledge of and enthusiasm for sharing the history and stories about various locations and time periods of Iceland were terrific. He is the top guide and driver we had on our trip. We really like the fish meal we had at Ólafsvík. Great meal and service. We enjoyed the beautiful waterfalls and marvelous scenery.

We were lucky sun came out and no fog so we were able to see very nice views on the way as well. Nice tour and great company to do it with. Our guide was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained. The spots are very nice as well. This tour was very worth it. Husband and I both liked it a lot. Two thumbs up.

Not that great an experience

This was the third sightseeing tour we took while in Iceland and while it had a few interesting sights it did not compare with the other parts of the country. But it rounds out the main sightseeing in western part of the country and is a good tour if you have an extra day. My review is also based on our experience with our driver/guide Siggi. Our small group tour was made up of a few mature adults and several younger adults and Siggi focused almost exclusively on the younger group. At various sightseeing spots he did not bother to suggest a slower pace to those who preferred that or warn people of slippery areas, steep climbs or give a helping hand if needed. Most of the time those in the back could not hear the descriptions he was giving either. Most good guides ensure that people of all abilities in their group have options and will keep an eye on everyone to ensure their safety. They generally do this without compromising the full experience. His knowledge of local geography and history was not very deep either. Regarding lunch-on previous excursions we had stopped at large restaurants/rest areas where folks had a choice of purchasing food and drink or had free use of tables to eat what they had packed. Siggi told the group he could go "off plan" and drive us to a small family style restaurant for a prix fix buffet lunch if there was interest. About 12 people on the bus were OK with that plan but 5 people did not want to go. However Siggi still decided to take us all there. In that little restaurant there was no option to simply buy a drink or a cup of soup but mainly there was no place to sit indoors while the the rest of the group ate their meal. This was not fair and completely discriminatory to the folks who preferred not to eat a big buffet lunch. I don't know if Siggi is new to this profession but he needs more sensitivity training and perhaps a course on the natural wonders of Iceland.

Not worth it if you get the same tour guide I did…

I feel like it could’ve been a good tour, but our tour guide talked about nothing but birds the entire 12 hours and gave us a massive history lesson. Our entire group was bored and tired of hearing about birds. Stopped at a bird sanctuary along the way which had aggressive birds and no one was having it. The restaurant we stopped at for lunch was also not affordable for everyone. Catch of the day fish was 5000isk ($40 usd… very small portion) and our tour guide really pushed us to get it and told us we would have less time for lunch if we ordered anything different.

Think Twice Beiore Taking This Tour

Both the Golden Circle Tour and the South Coast Tour were fantastic. This Snaefellsness tour was a definite bust. The scenery pales in comparison to the other two. We spent hours on the bus, with brief stops that were repetitive compared to the other tours. The worst: Two of the tour guests were out of control and the driver/tour leader actually facilitated them. One was a lady who talked constantly and ended every sentence with high-pitched laugh. The other was another solo traveler (wonder why) who encouraged her. Try sitting through 10 hours of that. Worse, the driver/tour leader egged them on. He even joined in on her extensive and mean-spirited criticism of a previous tour leader from the same company. Please! Take control of the tour group and quietly remind such loud-mouthed guests that others may want some quiet time.

Incredible views and worth the cost

The trip was incredible and Hauser was both knowledgeable and entertaining. You also completely get your money’s worth as the trip is truly all day, and you visit a variety of natural wonders and historic sites. Some of the most beautiful views of our entire trip were on this tour. Bring layers and wear hiking boots. Hauser also goes above and beyond as a guide and ended up returning a journal to me that I had mistakenly left. Our one piece of advice is to bring snacks for the tour; you may get hungry since it is 12 hours long.
