Leave the city by comfortable coach, and journey into Iceland’s countryside to search for the Northern Lights.

En route, listen as your guide explains the science behind the extraordinary natural phenomenon, also known as the Aurora Borealis. Learn about the Icelandic myths that have grown up around the spectacle, and how the fluorescent lights are formed by electrically charged particles in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Leave Reykjavik far behind, and head into an area free from any urban light pollution—the darker the skies, the better the chances of getting a good view of the lights.

Hop out of the coach at select locations with your camera in hand and scan the skies, with pointers from your guide. If you’re lucky, be treated to a display and gaze at the shimmering veils of fluorescent lights as they dance and move across the sky.

If you’re keen to get shots, get tips from your guide on how to set up your camera and take good quality photos. Sightings can’t be guaranteed, but if you don’t observe the lights, you receive a complimentary ticket to take the evening tour on another day.

After your evening spent looking for the lights, return to Reykjavik where your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off.

Before setting off on the Northern Lights tour, our specialists and guides make a decision of where the best possible chances to see the lights are. That means that there is no fixed location visited, and the destination is selected on a day-to-day basis. We can say with certainty that the Aurora Borealis is one of the most unique spectacles that life on Earth has to offer. That is why we make every effort to provide an unforgettable Northern Lights experience to our passengers with daily tours, supervised by our expert guides. After operating Northern Lights hunting tours for many years, we know a thing or two about finding the best possible viewing conditions. Before each tour, we study the weather forecasts to help us decide what the best location that night will be. If the conditions are right, you may be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the heavens, painting dramatic shapes, colors and patterns on the night sky.

A lifetime experience

This is was a lifetime experience. We could see the Northern lights. We were lucky to visit on a clear night, on a new moon day, with a solar active index of 3. They took us to the right spot, we had the best views of the northern lights. The best thing was that we could sit on the bus to warm ourselves in-between as it was very cold.

The tour was poorly narrated/guided. The destinations chosen to try to see the lights were too bright; i.e. too close tothe city.

Both the tour guide and the driver were excellent and very knowledgeable about Icelandic culture. Although the northern lights did not appear we still had a fantastic time and would recommend to all

Amazing experience!

Amazing experience! Oliver was such a great guide who explained Iceland and Northern Lights including the history very well. He was so nice that when we got cold waiting outside for the northern lights to appear he told me to go inside and warm up and he will call me when the activity increases. This shows how above and beyond he went! We did wait almost 3 hours but it was worth the wait.

Poor location

The tour guide was great and the bus was comfortable and warm, even picked us up from our hotel. However, the location for where you view the northern lights wasn’t ideal. Obviously you want it as dark as possible and we stopped at a visitor centre. There was lots of lights on at the visitor centre, including christmas lights, and the location was also between 2 roads. Pretty much every few minutes you’d have cars coming over the hill and blinding you with their full beam lights. This was constant for 2.5 hours. I understand you can’t always guarantee to see the northern lights, but standing in a spot with cars constantly shining lights at you is very off putting when you’re trying to focus on the lights. Could definitely do with a more quiet location.

Northern lights tour

Our tour guide didn’t talk that much. Just that we should not expect to see the northern lights. He wasn’t that informative at all. Thankfully, the tour company had scheduled us for another northern lights tour again on the 30th of December. Hopefully this time we do get to see the northern lights.
