6:30 AM
Get an early start on the day with pickup at your hotel then enjoy a light breakfast during the 113-mile (182-km) trip to Chichen Itza, an ancient Maya city that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Upon arrival at Chichen Itza, tour the sprawling complex with the guide, beginning with the Kukulkan Castle: also known as The Pyramid, this dramatic temple is aligned with the seasons, and a feathered serpent appears in shadow during the equinoxes. Continue to the ball court and the rest of the site, including the astronomical observatory, “The Church,” and more.

Following your time at Chichen Itza, travel to the Cenote Hubikku, an underground pool that’s perfect for a cooling swim. This is one of the many caverns that dot the Yucatan’s limestone plateau, and it’s often illuminated by a shaft of clear sunlight.

The final stop of the day is Ek Balam, where you can climb the acropolis to follow painted scenes from the Maya underworld, see the astronomers’ reflecting pools, and learn about the re-discovery of the site. Ek Balam is a less-visited site that’s still surrounded by thick jungle, and offers an explorer’s experience of Yucatan archeology. This tour concludes with return transfer to Playa del Carmen, and drop-off at your hotel.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Chichen Itza
After boarding the transportation at your hotel and a technical stop of 10 minutes, we’ll begin the route towards our first destination: Chichén Itzá. The main building is the Kukulkan Castle, known as The Pyramid. It is an icon of the astronomical, architectural, mathematical and engineering knowledge and, together with the platforms, they tell us about the past, with their many sculptures and representations of feathered serpents and Chaac masks, the majestic god of rain that lives in the sacred cenote. Other places like the monumental Ball Game, The Astronomical Observatory, also known as The Snail and the area of The Church are worth admiring, thanks to their masks from the Mayan classic period. Come and explore with us this World Cultural Heritage Site!
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Cenote Hubiku
The second stop of the day will be in Cenote Hubiku, after getting to know the history of Chichén Itzá. Here, you will be able to cool off in its water and have a relaxing time that you will surely remember forever. The cenote is subterranean, and we will enter it through its stone stairway. Thanks to its opening at the top, with the entrance of the sunlight, the water achieves a beautiful blue color.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Zona Arqueológica de Ek Balam
We will finish the tour at Ek Balam, where you can appreciate The Acropolis and its monumental entrance to the underworld, represented in the Uk’it Kan Lec Tok’ grave before being reborn as the mythical god of corn. The grave shows the jaws of a jaguar, flanked by a couple of Mayan “angels” and within it, the archeologists found an offering consisting of more than 7,000 pieces of jewelry in it, made by the best goldsmiths of the time.

Spectacular! Professional guide, early access and two pyramid cites are complementary to each other. Chichen Itza gives you a smell of history but Ek Balam is amazing opportunity to touch and climb over ancient buildings. Cenote we visited during the tour was something special with no crowd and absolutely clear refreshing water. I recommend this tour to everyone!

One of the best days we had on our visit to Mexico. Alfredo, our tour guide, was very pleasant. He had a wealth of knowledge to share about all of the places we visited, and also the towns we passed through along the way. He even recommended some of the excellent local foods to try from our lunch buffet. Bikar, our driver was very friendly and professional. I highly recommend both of them and will request them in the future when we come back. Thank you!

Excellent Day

Picked up 20 minutes late but we were advised by email that the pick up was late. All as detailed in the itinerary, 2nd stop the food/lunch was at the Cenote you can swim then eat or the other way around. We swam first and the changing rooms where okay as was the food and entertainment. If you want to spend a lot of time at Chichen Itza our 1st stop then maybe do less on another tour but we saw everything on the site with our guide, but we were a little pushed for the free time at the end with only 30 minutes, 10 of which we spent getting back to the beginning, because we had 2 more sites to visit. But it worked for us. Ek Balam our 3rd site, was also a great site to visit. Full 12 hour day for us after being picked up and dropped off at our Playa Del Carmen Hotel. Great guide and Driver and we had a cool box filled with as much water and juice as you could drink. We went on Monday the 29th of April and would use Yalku Tours again. Thank You

A long day, but overall worth it

We had an excellent trip overall. Didn't start out great as the bus driver got lost in the seedier side of Playa del Carmen on the way to pick up other members of the tour. This also caused us to be about half an hour behind schedule. One thing that was not as advertised - tour is promoted as being limited to 15 people, but we had 18. It wasn't a huge deal, but please don't lie to me about what you're selling. Despite being behind schedule we still made it to Chichen Itza before the crowds and the worst of the day's heat. Our guide was knowledgeable and had so many interesting facts to share. He also went out of his way to make sure our 7 year old was engaged, which we really appreciated. As we were heading out of the site we encountered the ENORMOUS crowds coming in and were very grateful for our early arrival! Hubiku is great - but it is COLD. Swim at your own risk! Glad we got a chance to visit Ek Balam while the buildings are still available to climb - our guide indicated that will probably not last much longer. Overall I do recommend this tour.
