As the birthplace of American freedom, Philadelphia has long been noted for its rich history, but it also well-known for its culinary history, most notably the cheesesteak. The cheesesteak was developed in the early 20th century by Philadelphians Pat and Harry Olivieri, who invented the sandwich by serving chopped steak on an Italian roll at their hot dog stand in the early 1930s. The Philadelphia Cheesesteak, as it has since become well-known, is now a local staple in restaurants, cafeterias and food carts throughout the city, including the neighboring town of Manayunk, located just 15 minutes from downtown Philadelphia.

The streets of Manayunk are lined with renovated Victorian storefronts and mill buildings, providing an urban experience with small town charm. The more than 30 restaurants on and around Main Street are where the cheesesteak and other iconic Philadelphia foods — like tomato pie, soft pretzels and Italian baked goods — are served for those on a quest to enjoy the flavors of Philly.

Amidst all the tasting, learn a thing or two about this 300-year-old neighborhood — its historical anecdotes, its classic architecture, and its cultural secrets — with an expert guide who will lead the way to food and fun facts.

Guide was fantastic, and the food was fabulous. Didn't know anything about Manyunk before we went, and hit quite a few highlights.

We had a lot of fun! Tried the best Philly Cheese steak ever!, learned alittle bit of the Philadelphia history...It was a nice walk through an old neighborhood. The guide was awesome! The only concern I would have is, after the tour is done...you are on your own to find your way back to your car....and it could be quite a hike for someone older. Other than that....Loved it!

Nice walking food experience in the Manayunk township of Philadelphia. Be prepared to taste quite a bit of starchy food, ie. Tomato pie, soft pretzel, philly cheese steak, sticky bun, cup cake, peanut butter and jelly hamburger, coffee drink. I recommend you don't eat before your tour. I wish they provided a little more history and age of some of the buildings/churches.
