Overview

Many visitors to France make time to visit both the Palace of Versailles and Monet's Impressionist garden at Giverny. This day trip from Paris allows you to do both. First, wander through the lush landscape around the artist’s residence, which served as inspiration for his Nymphéas (Water Lilies) series. After lunch, head to Versailles and visit Louis XIV's lavish royal palace. On particular dates, you see the fountains on display.
  • Save time and combine two top attractions in one day, by coach from Paris
  • Stroll through Monet's inspirational garden at Giverny and learn from your guide

This activity will end right where it started.
Leave Paris for a full-day tour of two of the most popular day trip destinations outside the French capital, Louis XIV's Palace of Versailles and Monet's garden in Giverny.

Your first stop is Giverny, where Impressionist master Claude Monet lived from 1883 until his death in 1926. Walk across the Japanese bridge and gaze upon the water lily pond while you stroll the gardens that surround his former home. This picturesque landscape was the inspiration for many of his most famous paintings, including the Nymphéas series.

After a guided tour of Monet's gardens, it's time for a hearty lunch at the Moulin de Fourges. This 18th-century mill, inspired by the Queen's Hamlet, has been transformed into a restaurant and inn. From there, continue by coach to Versailles.

The opulent décor at the Palace of Versailles—once the extravagant home of King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette—includes the Hall of Mirrors and the Royal Grand Apartments. On your guided tour, try to imagine daily life for the royal family. Then enjoy some free time in the World Heritage-listed Versailles Gardens and wander among the groves, sculptures, and fountains. On particular days, from April to October, they are part of a musical Fountains Show; if you're lucky you'll see this special display (cost included), set to the tunes of Louis XIV's era, before your day trip concludes with travel back to Paris.

Versailles palace gardens and the awesome three course meal at Fourges. The guide was really sweet and amiable

Poor preparation

Giverny was lovely and Versailles was beautiful. Lunch was very nice. But the amount of time we had in Versailles was extremely limited, and made even more so by a 30-40 minute delay in getting tickets. This left us with a lot less time to see the palace and virtually no time in the gardens. Very disappointing

Ask questions. Make sure you understand about meeting places following free time exploration

The guide was less than effective in giving directions and solving the problems with the audio guides. We were left behind at Giverny although we were at what we thought was the meeting place in very good time. "Meet me at the cafe and we will walk back to the bus together" - when there are actually three cafes was not the most effective messaging. We did make it back to the parking lot just to see the bus pulling away through the round about. And no one came back or connected with us.

Wonderful day trip! Great guide and all was well planned and organized. We could really enjoy the sights and Didn’t feel as if we needed to rush. The guide was lovely and her guidelines were clear. The day was super and we would highly recommend this tour. :)

Monet Gardens was suburb, Versailles not as much

Overall our expectations were met. We give Versailles 3 stars and Monet gardens 5 stars. The tour guide had a lot of good information for both venues. We were a bit taken back at the condition of Versailles which we expected to be pristine …I guess they are short of staff like everyone else, and the gardens were not in bloom. The Monet Gardens were pristine and in full bloom which made it quite inspiring.

Early Spring in Giverny and Versailles

This is a perfect full day trip when staying in Paris. The gardens in Giverny are beautiful and the house tour was interesting. We stopped for lunch between each visit and that was a delicious meal. Versailles was crowded and while it was interesting, the amount of people detracted from the experience.

extremely disappointing for non spanish speakers
Stephanie_B
, Apr 2022
My main issue with the tour was that i booked a tour in spanish for my family and I as my family only speaks spanish. When we checked in with the staff, we stated this and they said it would not be an issue. However, there was no spanish in the whole tour. The guided tour was all in english and no spanish interpretation was available. The only spanish used was to say hi and bye. This was very disappointing as my family could not enjoy the full cost of the trip and the cost of the guided tour was worthless. When i tried to submit a refund request, the simply stated that they would give us a $25 credit despite the fact that the whole experience was lost.

The morning trip to...
Steve_F

The morning trip to GIverny was great and Fabio the guide was outstanding. However the afternoon was awful. We waited ages for another group to arrive then many of us had the wrong tickets and we ended up wasting an hour. We then stood in the freezing wind for half an hour to be told that the bus had a "technical problem". At which point we left and got a taxi back to Paris which cost 20 euros per person.
