In the early morning, board the train and head south from Paris through the French countryside, admiring the scenery of Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. Upon arrival in Avignon, head to the Popes’ Palace (Palais des Papes), one of Europe’s largest Gothic palaces and part of the UNESCO World Heritage site known as the ‘Historic Centre of Avignon: Papal Palace, Episcopal Ensemble and Avignon Bridge.’ Tour the palace independently, listening to recorded narration about how Avignon became the City of Popes.

You then have free time in town to buy lunch (own expense) and walk through the historic center before hopping on your coach with your guide to continue your day trip through Provence.  Stop for a photo op of the Roman ruins Les Antiques at St Rémy de Provence, where Nostradamus was born, and then head to Les Baux de Provence, a medieval village perched on a rocky cliff more than 800 feet (245 meters) in the air. Take a walking tour of the village on your own, exploring its historical buildings and market stalls where you can purchase souvenirs like perfume and olive oil.

Next, visit Pont du Gard, a World Heritage–listed Roman aqueduct, one of the best-preserved of its kind. Enjoy a bit of free time here to take photos and admire the postcard-perfect setting before returning to the train station in Avignon for the journey back to Gare de Lyon in Paris.

Well, all the spot was fantastic.., but the train ride really tiring.., though it was clean and fast.. mabye it just because of the distance. The tour itself, well the guide.. wasn't explain that much, he basicly just drove us from one spot to another and tell us what time we got to get back.

Absolutely recommended if you want a day to get just a taste of the South of France. From Paris, to the train station, to Avignon, the guides were knowledgeable and helpful. We would have liked to spent more of the sites the walled city of Avignon, Les Baux de Provence and Pont du Gard but we expected to be on a tight schedule since it was only a day. But even just the experience of riding the high speed TGV was also a highlight for us - less than a three hour ride to such beautiful sites. Only means we will visit again for a longer trip because there is just so much to see an experience.

This was an interesting tour however I was disappointed that I did not see any lavender fields. The brochure and description/photos of the tour gave you the impression that you would. This year the lavender fields were harvested early so I do understand that. However, my understanding is that they really didn't have many, if any, lavender fields in the areas that this tour covers. This was a little disappointing but it was still great to see Avignon, the Popes Palace, the Pont du Gard, etc.

With only one free day available on our Paris trip, this tour is worth the time and cost if you want to see a bit of Provence. Up early and nearly 6 hours going and coming on the comfortable, high-speed train, but you get to see quite a bit in a short time in Avignon and the surrounding area. We were very pleased.

ideally one would be able to spend a few days in provence and explore Avignon, however you have a limited amount of time this is a good introduction to the region. There was nearly 2 hours between the meeting time at the tourist office and the train departure. if at all possible there might better use of the time if they could book an earlier train so that there were be more time to explore in Avignon.

We were very upset because your local Paris guide made us come in at 6:30 am when our train did not leave till 8:45. We had to sit and wait when our hotel was so close. Also we did not have enough time on our own to explore or shop and I was disappointing that we did not get to see more small towns
