Your Oahu shark dive begins at Haleiwa boat harbor on the island’s famous North Shore, where you motor out to the open ocean offshore. While cruising out to the shark diving area, there’s a chance you could see dolphins, sea turtles, surfers or even humpback whales in winter, and the view looking back at Oahu’s shoreline is worth the trip in itself.

Since safety is one of the top priorities for the Oahu shark diving crew, receive a briefing on safe practices and how to act in the cage. Then, when it’s time to finally go looking for sharks, strap on your masks, step in the cage, and your shark watching adventure begins when you’re lowered in the water.

Out here in the open ocean away from the runoff and waves, visibility can often extend to as much as 200 feet (60m). When you first catch sight of a graceful shark swimming slowly but purposefully towards you, there’s a sudden and potent rush of adrenaline you simply can’t contain. Before you can even be scared, however, the sharks have swum to within inches of the cage and are circling in front of your face.

In the waters around Oahu, the most commonly sighted sharks you might find are Galapagos, Hammerhead, and Sandbar sharks, which range from 5-15 feet (1.5-4.5m) dependent upon their age. For travelers wanting to dive as a group, the cage can comfortably hold two adult divers and up to eight at a time—though it depends on current weather conditions and the amount of movement in the water.

And, if you simply don’t want to dive in the cage but are hoping to see some sharks, there’s still plenty of thrilling action you can experience while viewing from the deck of the boat.

This was a great experience! Crew was awesome, and we got to swim with some larger sharks. It was fairly choppy in the cage, so prepare for motion sickness if you are sensitive to that!

Sorry the winds have really picked up lately. Hope to see you again.
Sharks galore

Great trip! Ocean was a dark blue, waves were crashing all around and the sharks were many. They swim right next to the cage! Make sure you take your camera or gopro. The guides give you as many facts as you want. They are very safety conscious too for those of us who are a little timid. Take dramamine, half our boat was queasy by the end!!!

WoW! try to have a boat in Hawaii and get parts for that boat. We are at the mercy of the parts god. Next day air on a holiday weekend turns into 5 days. Sorry for the inconvenience Joe Pavsek

I was reluctant at the thought of swimming with sharks but I'm really glad we did it. Our guides Paulina & Adrianna were very helpful and friendly. The water was perfect and was awesome to see the sharks close in their natural environment=) I recommend!

My experience
, Jun 2021
Being in the cage with sharks. It really didn’t matter what type of sharks the fact that they are bigger than me and have teeth was impressive enough. Very beautiful creatures! My only biggest issue was and I told the deck hand that I’d like to have a video. When the experience was done and I asked the captain about it and he said you need to request it before hand. The deckhand said I forgot. It’s not like I do this every day. I wanted something to record a beautiful experience and cannot to someone’s forgetfulness.

Excellent trip. Highly recommend for families with kids 7yrs and older. While in the cage it can get a little rocky. My kids are 8 and 11 and they loved it and did well handling the sea.
