Bringing NOLA history to life

An informative tour led by an upbeat and positive guide! Lafayette #1 is currently closed to visitors (for a renovation project that has yet to start it seems), but it didn't diminish the experience. Lots of information re burial practices and the unique history of NOLA that led to the above ground tombs. The stroll around the garden district that followed was equally interesting...there is so much interesting history related to the properties there. This tour will give you a great primer on New Orleans history generally, with the cemetery and the houses serving as milestones/prompts to the back story. Very enjoyable and great value. Bear in mind that the tour takes a couple of hours, you'll be on your feet throughout, and there's no shade...so make sure to bring some water and sunscreen. For people staying in the French quarter, the Streetcar is a super convenient way to get out to the rendezvous point. The garden district is a residential area with few stores..but there is a coffee shop (Still Perkin') opposite the cemetery, where you can grab a drink and stock up on water before the tour. Highly recommend.

WONDERFUL TOUR GUIDE

My daughters and I went to NOLA for a girls weekend, and I booked this tour for a pleasant afternoon. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable, and I really enjoyed hearing the history around the first three homes we saw. Then, due to a medical condition, one of my daughters passed out cold in front of the Ann Rice home. The tour guide was so sweet and quick to respond, and even gave us a Gatorade out of her own back pack. She made sure my daughter was ok, and was prepared to assist us in any way we needed. I didn’t get a chance to tip her or thank her properly, but she was very much appreciated! I can’t wait to take this tour again, and hopefully complete it!!

It would have been nice to know that the Lafayette Cemetery was closed. It was the main reason we booked this tour. Also, the tour guide had trouble speaking and talking loudly so we couldn't hear when cars were driving by
