I had the chance to visit Mt. Vesuvius on August 31st. Weather was not necessarily great at the start, but it cleared up a little bit later on. How Guide/Driver Pino was amazing, a great guy with a lot of stories and anecdote to tell us not only about Vesuvius, but also about Naples, Pompei and the whole area. Pino was really entertaining during our way up to the volcano. We spent 2 hours there with local guides explaining us what happened in 79 d.c and in 1631 and in 1944. The view of the crater was amazing and also the walking path till the Belvedere from which you could see the Gulf on Naples. On the way back Pino drove us through Naples, showing us Posillipo and Parthenope Mermaid fountain. Great Tour, I would encourage everyone to dedicate half a day to it!

Overpriced "tour" but great day

Paid €97 through Viator. Entry costs €20. So the rest was for transport. Rip Off! Having said that,the driver was friendly and helpful. There was no guide as stated in the description. We just got told to walk up. There are a couple of little shops selling drinks & souvenirs along the way. Views are fantastic.

Left despite unsuitable weather

The weather was unsuitable for the trip which the organiser knew about. However, if they were to cancel the trip before departing, they would have to reufnd us the money. As such, we left the meeting point, only to make a U-turn 30 minutes later and return to the organiser's office. Needless to say that the money for the trip were not refunded, only the entry ticket to the park. It is much better for you to go and book the trip on the day even with a different provider, once you know that the weather is good enough for you to travel. Otherwise you are just throwing your money in a bin.

Mt. Vesuvius is hard to reach on your own. Best way to visit the site is with this tour (travel to and from Napoli perfect, worry free). Also you get enough time at the top to look around, you are not rushed. Very professional and kind tour operation!

Encontramos no ponto de encontro. O motorista aguardava nos com o ticket da entrada no Vesúvio. Entramos na minivan e seguimos viagem para o Vesúvio. O motorista fala italiano e inglês e tem sentido de humor. A visita ao Vesúvio são 4h. Na volta para Nápoles paramos numa pizzaria tradicional e muito económica para almoçar (o almoço não está incluído). Aconselho a tour, mas levem água e ténis confortáveis.
