Departure Time

8:00 AM
After morning pickup from locations in central Naples, relax during the scenic drive to Pompeii.

Begin with a walking tour of the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, stopping to see the thermal baths, racy paintings in the Lupanare, the Basilica, Macellum (market square), and the formerly opulent residence known as the House of Faun. Your guide shares informative commentary about life in old Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

After your time at the ruins, enjoy a delicious pizza lunch or wine tasting (option selected at checkout). Next up, rejoin your driver and travel up Mt. Vesuvius to 3,280 feet (1,000 meters). Disembark there and follow your guide up a winding path that leads to the top of the volcano (this is a moderately challenging walk). Peer into the volcano crater and learn about the geology of the volcano from a volcanologist guide.

Please note that the admission fees at both sites are at your own expense.

Your tour ends with return to your starting point in Naples in the late afternoon.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Pompeii Archaeological Park
Take the chance to visit in only 2 hours the ruins of the Roman city of Pompeii, the vast archaeological area under the UNESCO patronage.
Pass By:
Forum
The Forum was the centre of Pompeii when it was first founded and even after the city's enlargement, when it could hardly be called 'central', it remained the focus of political, economic and religious life.
Pass By:
Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane)
The Stabian Baths take their name from the fact that they lie at the intersection of the Via Stabiana and the Via dell'Abbondanza. They are the oldest baths in Pompeii and four different building phases can be identified.
Pass By:
Tempio di Giove Capitolino
The Temple of Jupiter, dedicated to the Capitoline triad of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, dominates the north side of the Forum.
Pass By:
Macellum
The Macellum, or food market, stands in the north-east corner of the Forum. The complex, built in the imperial age as a covered market, had a large number of shops on its periphery on the Via degli Augustali and on the Forum as well as on the inside under a colonnade around its large internal court.
Pass By:
Vesuvius National Park
Painted over the centuries by various artists, Mt. Vesuvius is the natural landmark of the Bay of Naples. This volcano is a "must-see" sightseeing place for each tourist.

Nancy, our tour guide at Pompei gave very detailed and interesting descriptions on the site. She was also very organized in arranging the group and responded quick to our requests. The driver who later drove us up to Mount Vesuvious was also very friendly and professional. Good value of money as it saved time and energy to go to these points by yourselves.

It was an excellent tour, with a very reasonable price. Special mentions for our guide from Pompeii, Yasmine, who turned the journey through the ruins into a wonderful escape in time. Thanks also to Daiana, who was attentive to our needs at all stages. At Vesuvius, the crater area was well presented by the local guide. Last but not least, the included lunch was above expectations, in an excellent location. Thanks to the organizers. It was an unforgettable experience, despite the COVID pandemic.

The transfer vehicles were clean & on time. The staff were polite. The guide at Pompeii was very informative & spoke good English. The lunch was also surprisingly very good. Finally the trip up Versuvius was the highlight at the end of a well organised trip.

AWFUL

We had paid more to be in the small group tour of pompeii and mount vesuvius rather than the large group of 40 people. We got to Pompeii at 9:05 and were told we had to wait until 9:30 for our tour guide to arrive. At 9:45 the large bus from WorldTours arrived but we had to wait for everyone to use the washroom so we didn't get into Pompeii until 10:00 so only had 2 hours to walk around (we left the tour group of 40 because we hate being in large groups like that) When we met our small group guide at noon he brought us up Mount Vesuvius to this restaurant to get our pizza lunch. Well, AGAIN we were not served until the large bus arrived and they got my husband's order wrong so I was finished eating before he even got his pizza. We went to leave in our van and it was leaking oil from the engine. We had to wait for 45 mins for a new van to arrive. We then were given only an hour to do the hike mount Vesuvius. When I contacted viator for a refund they said World tours was not refunding them because they claimed we made it into Pompeii at 9:30 and did not even comment on what I told them about the bus breaking down. They said we had to prove that we didn't get in until 10:00...how am I supposed to do that???? This entire tour was a complete let down and what I am most upset about the fact that we paid for a small group tour and then had to constantly wait for the large group anyways.

I simply enjoyed Pompeii, Its a lot of walking, but there was so much to see. The pizza was the best. My husband claims the mount Vesuvius. I couldn't handle it...I'm not fit enough..lol, but he loved it. It well worth it. Be sure to bring Euros, they do not take cash. We paid $50 euros for the both of us.

Our guide was prompt with meeting us at the cruise terminal. It was a bit confusing on where to meet, but we kept checking every gate until we located our name placard. The tour was excellent and the guide we had at Pompeii was AMAZING! One down side, if you are not physically fit you will want to skip the trip to Vesuvius, it is a difficult climb. We were on a time crunch because we had to get back to the ship, so we had to hustle. Climbing Vesuvius takes endurance.

Although the actual trip was good- seeing Pompeii incredible as well as going all the way up to the top of Vesuvius was amazing, the tour (in the bus) guide came across as rather lazy/couldn't care and the guide within Pompeii difficult to hear and understand

Only Half a Tour

Pompeii was really interesting with a very knowledgeable guide, Francesco. A lot of waiting around at the beginning even though there were no queues at the entrance. Transport was lovely as was our organiser Sara. Mt Vesuvius and lunch got cancelled because of rain so we were told we'd get a refund for that half of the tour and the pizza lunch that was too be included. Initially they refunded me £17.98 for 4 people! After some persuasion I got a total refund of £72 -£18 per person. I paid £225 so got refunded roughly one third, this was very disappointing along with the disappointment of not getting to see Mt Vesuvius as we were only in port for one day. Don't think I'd use Viator again which is a shame because the people on the ground were lovely.

We were picked up in a minibus by our tour guide Sarah, a very friendly and caring lady. Along the way she explained the history of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius which was really nice! At Pompeii she arranged the tour guide and he guided us through the ruins and gave a wonderful explanation of everything. Lunch was simple but nice. It was a very hot day so the airconditioned minibus was perfect. It was also lovely that we were just a small group of 15 or so which made it much cozier and personal.
