Choose a morning or afternoon departure, then meet a guide at your Kuching hotel for transfer to the Sarawak Cultural village, which is located 22 miles (35 km.) north of the city in a lush, jungle setting. This “living museum” offers a unique chance to experience Sarawak’s many cultures in a single place, and each exhibit is staffed by interpreters from Borneo tribal groups and communities.
You’ll have plenty of time to visit the Sarawak Cultural Village, making your way through a series of seven replica houses that highlight the distinctive architecture of different Sarawak Peoples. See a Chinese farm house, a Malay house that stands on slender stilts, a Melanau tall house, and a Penan hut, then see contrasting longhouses like those built by the Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu peoples.
Each house contains fascinating artifacts from the corresponding community, and interpreters demonstrate traditional skills like basket weaving and carving, blow-pipe hunting and spinning. Some guests are even invited to join ceremonies, sampling Sarawak’s powerful tuak, or rice wine. This tour concludes with return transfer to Kuching, and drop-off at your hotel.
