Half-Day North Borneo Railway Train Ride

The trip was fantastic. We enjoyed the whole experience. We were sent a reminder stating time driver would pick us up at the hotel which was posted through our hotel door. The driver arrived slightly early which is always a good sign. The driver sorted our tickets and pointed us to the right platform. The carriages were already set up and we left on time. The carriage was not air conditioned but there were ceiling fans and the windows were open so a nice breeze came through when we were travelling. We had a lovely local breakfast, plenty drinks and tiffin style lunch. You could purchase beer and additional soft drinks if you wished. We were kept informed of our journey throughout. There was a stop at a Buddhist temple for 30 minutes and a further stop of 45 minutes at our destination station where we could have a walk around the town and local market. Tiffin lunch was set up on our return to the carriage and we had a leisurely journey back. The engine is very old and did run out of steam a couple of times on the way back but it stopped at stations so you could get off if you wished. The toilet and washbasin on board was spotless. We returned around 30 minutes late at 3.30 pm and the driver was waiting to take us back to our hotel. My husband is a steam loco fanatic so he would have enjoyed the journey come what may. I can however say that I also thoroughly enjoyed the whole day which is one of the best activities we did during our stay in Borneo.

Great experience a must do trip.good service on board,staff dressed appropriate for the occasion. Lunch was fantastic.Do not go off times though as we were to leave at 10am but delayed an hour because engine had to build up steam,as well as coming back had to wait an hour to build up steam again and and got back at 5.30pm instead of 1.45pm,but do not get discouraged as this makes it more of a trip.
