Radiation!

Fantastic tour to Chernobyl and Pripyat. Kyiv to Chernobyl exclusion zone is about 2 hours on the coach. I thought this was going to be a boring drive but the guides Oksana and Daria (sorry if wrong spelling!) had plenty to tell on the bus journey, as well as videos to watch. They were both very informative and clearly passionate about the history of the place, which is their history and a very important one. Amazing to be so close to Reactor No4 but the most enjoyable part of the tour was seeing Pripyat. Oddly, it is a beautiful place, the Soviet architecture now being consumed by nature. Definitely a thought provoking and sad place too, a dream not realised, a place that thousands of people called home and no doubt had a happy and amazing life there, having to be suddenly abandoned. However a somewhat heart-warming end seeing the Monument to Those Who Saved the World before we departed for Kyiv and thinking about the brave people who lost their lives trying to contain this disaster. Highly recommended!

Not as advertised

The guides were fantastic and the tour was interesting and well organized. I'm giving this tour 2 stars because it was not as advertised in the description. First, it is not a small group tour, it's a bus of 50-60 people. The tour consists of approx 10 stops at checkpoints and sites. I think we spent more time getting people on and off the bus then we did at the sites. Second, the lunch was not included as stated in the description. I was forced to pay an additional 270 ($11) when boarding the bus. While the guides were great I definitely wouldn't take this tour again. The other tours I saw were much smaller groups and spent more time at the sites. I couldn't help to feel herded like livestock. Also, the lunch at the cafeteria was disgusting, if your tour is advertising lunch there bring your own food.

Dear Ryan, Thank you for your feedback, we’re happy that you’ve enjoyed the tour and appreciate your comment about the good organization! We state that for the group tours the size of the group varies from 10-16 persons on a tour to a big bus of 40-50, depending on the amount of people who have registered for this date. April and October are the peaks of the season in Chornobyl – that’s why there are many tourists who visit the Exclusion zone, we agree. Our managers always advise dates with less people on a tour if it fits the tourist’s itinerary. For the deeper exploration of Chornobyl with a small group we recommend visiting during another month or just taking a private or multi-day tour. Lunch is not a mandatory option. You may book it when booking a tour as a separate option or add on a day of a tour. But since people have different diets we leave it for the choice of a tourist – to get a meal on a tour at the Chornobyl canteen or just bring some snacks. You’re correct that sometimes other groups that you may see in the zone can be smaller. Those are either private/multi-day tours or other tour operators that don’t have highly qualified guides who get trained and pass the exams to start working – therefore they have less tourists. The choice is always yours, but we truly believe that quality is the most important thing especially when it comes to a tour to Chornobyl. It’s the question of physical and radiological safety, information provided and guarantees that the tour is provided without any possible problems with the permissions to enter the Exclusion zone, timing issues and other things. And this is also a question what one will see – an abandoned place with possibilities for selfies or with the professional guides – one of the most interesting and important places on Earth with a unique story of a battle with radiation that humankind won, a place where we should learn a lesson for the future generations and show our gratitude to the heroes that saved the world in 1986. Great memorable tour of Chernobyl/Prypiat

Had the opportunity to visit various sites of the nuclear disaster during the one day tour, including Chernobyl, Pripyat, etc. Highly knowledgeable tour guide (Iryna) was able to provide an overview of the history of this place as well as its current state. Plenty of opportunities to take photos. During my tour, a small group of 15 people was present, allowing special requests to be made upon asking. Sadly due to covid, canteen was closed, but a partial refund was provided respectfully. Having travelled to 50 countries, this tour easily goes to becoming one of the top 3 tours I have had as a traveller.
