We trekked through the Jungle well off the "beaten path" and swam in some incredible waterfalls! We also got to learn about the history of the island and the uses of the various flora from our amazing guide!

Superb private rainforest hike

We were a group of three friends looking for something to do while visiting Kauai. Our physical abilities were all different - 1 avid crossfitter, 1 experienced hiker and 1 who was sporty but afraid of heights and not wanting to swim. I mention all this because what Charlie did was tailor the adventure to fit all of our needs and abilities. Here’s how it worked: 1) We met by the guide’s house and had some orientation. He drove us off road from there, sharing lots of Hawaiian culture and history until we got to our start point. 2) From there, we did a lot of hiking through the jungle and bush. Charlie chose trails that were challenging and fun, but not beyond (or below) our abilities. He always made sure to help anyone who needed assistance and no one was left behind. 3) Our hike included stops at three different waterfalls/swimming holes. This was my favorite part, jumping into that refreshing river water and playing like I was a kid again. I should note that we were taken to an area that was completely off the beaten path - there were no other tourists (or any people at all). It felt extremely special. 4) Charlie’s personality was warm and welcoming. Being guided and educated by him was a comfort and joy. We knew we were sharing an experience with someone personable, skilled and filled with knowledge. 5) What to watch out for? We went in August when it was hot and humid. There were plenty of mosquitos and enough mud to get everyone dirty. Be prepared to push through the brush and walk through rivers. I’d highly recommend mosquito repellent. In addition, bring some snacks to enjoy by the 2nd waterfall. Drinks were provided. Finally, I had brought both hiking shoes and water shoes, not knowing which would be best. I ended up deciding on the water shoes (they were a good fit and had some grip on the bottom). This was the way to go for the hike. They were perfect for the dirt and mud, allowed easy gripping on rocks when walking across rivers and made for easy swimming. So, in conclusion, I highly recommend this adventure. It is a heck of a lot of fun. We’ll be back again next trip, for sure.

Best jungle adventure with best guide ever: Charlie the Hawaiian Dundee
Mike
, Aug 2021
This is one of the best experience that we have ever had! Charlie aka Hawaiian Dundee is the best in business. He teaches us everything about history, plants, and lots of tips about jungle adventure. He always finds the best waterfalls around and always let the guests enjoy the best time and never in a rush. We had a great time in the jungle and we literally enjoyed the beautiful waterfalls entirely without any other tourists around.
