After you meet your guide beside Hagia Sophia Museum begin your 3.5-hour small-group walking tour by entering this architectural masterpiece. Follow your guide through this former Byzantine Christian Basilica and learn how it was converted to a mosque in the 15th century and then a museum about 500 years later. Admire the intricate details of Christian mosaics, relics and gaze up at the impressive columns and dome structure that will beg you take photos.

Next, leave Hagia Sophia and stroll to Sultanahmet Square to marvel at the German Fountain. As you observe water gush from this Neo-Renaissance fountain, hear how Germany’s General Emperor Wilhelm presented this gift to Turkey to symbolize the two countries longstanding solidarity.

Afterward, continue with a short walk to the Hippodrome of Constantinople, the epicenter of political and sporting life in Istanbul during Roman and Ottoman empire reign. Listen as your guide tells tales of raucous riots, exciting chariot races, and chaotic rebellions that once dominated this area.

Finally, explore the famous Blue Mosque which was commissioned in the early 1600s by 19-year-old Sultan Ahmet to challenge the brilliance of the Hagia Sophia. As you wander with your guide, stare up at the six towering minarets and enjoy the grandeur of the immense dome that fills Istanbul’s postcard worthy skyline. Inside, walk along and capture stunning views of the blue Iznik tiles that cover the walls and ceiling. Then, snap a few close-ups of the elegant stained-glass windows that fill the mosque with vibrant colors. Step out of the Blue Mosque, and promenade back through this historic area to the beginning where your tour ends.

Note: On Mondays Hagia Sophia is closed and will be replaced with Basilica Cistern.

Our guide was good, and gave us a lot of history and information. Appreciate it much. Wish there was more time given to stay inside Hagia Sofia.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you very much for your review. We are very glad that you are happy from our services. Unfortunately the time limit for this tour is limited and for this reason we are not able to stay more than scheduled. At First we drove with a little bus around the Hagia Sophia to collect all the people. It would easily be possible to meet there. The guide was great and the best was that we even visited the tombs of the Sultans.

I purchased this tour, then the explosion at the airport happened and I was busy the morning of the tour making sure my flights were coordinated, so I missed the tour. I did end up seeing the sights solo later in the day, everything was pretty quiet and Istanbul is beautiful. I cannot rate the tour and guide as I didn't end up using them.

There were 18 people on this tour and the website promised no more than 15. We booked and had confirmation that we would be picked up from our hotel. This didn't happen until we phoned to see why we were still waiting. Half an hour after the booked time a guide arrived to take us to where the group had already started so we missed out on the first part of the information about the tour. The guide said he had not been given the information about us booking to be collected from our hotel.

I really don't like to leave bad reviews so I will start by saying our guide was fantastic. We were waiting promptly 10 min before the tour started like we were told. Waiting, waiting, waiting.... Nobody showed up. At 9:05 am luckily I had a local contact number and they said he will be there soon. Another 10 min went by and I called again. Finally another guy showed up and we had to walk pretty far to meet the group. It was very unorganized. There were other people waiting at a different location who were very upset and they didn't even end up doing the tour because they were late. Honestly I have had very good luck booking with Viator so this was a surprise it was so unorganized. This tour we took on a Sunday morning so you couldn't blame traffic.
