This day trip from Inverness takes you to the dramatic Isle of Skye, heading southwest by minivan to the rugged Scottish Highlands. Your first stop is Loch Ness, home to the legendary Loch Ness Monster. Stop for a break at Invermoriston and spot the Thomas Telford Bridge before continuing on through Glen Moriston and passing alongside the Five Sisters mountain range. Disembark at Eilean Donan Castle for a look at the sprawling ruins along the banks of three freshwater lochs.

Upon reaching Kyle of Lochalsh, your vehicle crosses the Skye Bridge to the Isle of Skye, stopping at a charming local inn in Bradford for lunch (own expense).

Next you’ll cross over the bridge to Skye and head for Kyleakin, where there’ll be a stop for lunch. Your tour of this magical island takes in the stunningly beautiful sight of the Cuillin Hills on the road to Portree, the capital of Skye and its colourful harbour.

Enjoy sea views of the Isle of Rum before re-boarding the minivan for the return journey. Pass the village of Achnasheen, Black Islethe and the isle of Eilean Ban — home to British novelist Gavin Maxwell — arriving in Inverness in the evening.

Disappointing

Although the price was to include the entrance to Eilean Donan Castle, this was not able to happen due to a dispute between the company and the castle. I did email the company and ask if we would get the cost of the entrance to the castle back but as yet I have not had a reply. Anyone is allowed to go around the outside of the castle without paying and we did do this. I think really there is too long a journey to do Skye from Inverness, as very little time was spent on the Island.

A perfect day

It's a very long trip covering almost 12 hours with most of the time spent in driving. But they planned it perfectly - there was a break after each hour of driving and still the time was perfectly managed. We went with our 4 year old daughter but still didn't face any issue. Coming to the guides, they were excellent. They were actually husband and wife where the wife was driving the car and the husband was doing the talking. It was thoroughly entertaining and informative. The bus was a 16 seater with 2+1 seat layout. Kathy managed the seating combinations perfectly where the couples got twin seats and single persons got the single seat. We being the only family of 3, got the last row of 4 seats. Sinclair was very dedicated and loves his job. He knows all the smaller details of all the places-even where exactly the toilets are. If you have more time, probably the 3 day trip will be better but if you have just a day, this trip is perfect.

It was an amazing experience. Michael (according to son) explained lot about Scottish history, folklores, and stopped for nice photo stops. Our son was happy to play in the valley. We were able to cover most places within the time limit, which we never be able to do of our own. Nice experience. Thanks.

Absolutely incredible day! Our guide Michael was fantastic, informed us of local history, landmarks and looked the part in his kilt too! We have been wanting to visit Skye for a long time as we named our daughter after the beautiful island and she felt so special visiting!

This trip was really awesome! It was noticeable that the guide really was putting genuine effort in the tour. You got enough free time to see the sights at some places for a bit.

We were lucky to have the weather on our side for such a tour. Even though our first stop gave us a taste of the white stuff....it was just a few flurries. Portree was an absolutely lovely town. We arrived at lunchtime - unfortunately so did all the other bus tours so the restaurants were full. Eilean Donan was everything I expected it to be. Beautiful. Every photo was a stunner. It was a very good day. Glad we left from Inverness.

While its a long day, it was a great day. Kevin the bus driver was safe and very knowledgeable and passionate about what he was showing. The trip showed how spectacular the Scottish highland scenery was. I was tired at the end but it was a day worth it. A great trip

Alan, our tour guide, was excellent. He shared just enough history and facts to make an interesting day. He also was quiet for nice spans of time to give us time to enjoy the trip. We went to a lot of places but the timing was just right each place.
