Departure Time

5:00 AM
Your private tour of Luxor kicks off with an early morning pick up from your Hurghada hotel. Enjoy air-conditioned comfort as you make your way through the desert in your private minivan on the journey to Luxor. Your expert Egyptologist shares stories and information about the famed city, which occupies the former site of Thebes—the ancient capital of Egypt’s New Kingdom. See the east bank of the Nile River and get an epic view of the Valley of the Kings.

Your local guide takes you through the 63 Kingdom royal tombs that date back to the 2nd century BC and offer details on why the tombs were built. Explore three of these on your own (guides are not permitted). Purchase a ticket to the tomb of Tutankhamen if time allows and gain a deeper understanding of one of Egypt’s most iconic tombs.

Join your guide and make your way to the Temple of Hatshepsut—a modern-looking structure. Explore the courtyards and terraces as you learn about Egypt’s greatest queen. Make a stop at the Colossi of Memnon to snap some photos and then head to a quiet Nile island to enjoy a traditional Egyptian lunch.

With full bellies, head out to the massive Karnak Temple, which was built in 2055 BC. Its three inner temples are dedicated to Amun, Khonsu and Mut—gods your guide will share more about. After exploring the temple head towards the Avenue of the Sphinxes and check out the Great Hypostyle Hall, known for its 134 massive columns. Take in the beauty of the man-made Sacred Lake as you listen to your guide explain the significance of the history and architecture that surrounds you.

Your private Luxor day trip from Hurghada includes a ride on a felucca (sailboat) along the Nile River. Once the trip is complete, make your way to Hurghada in the air-conditioned comfort of your private vehicle and return to your hotel for the evening.

Awesome Day Trip to Luxor

This was an amazing day trip from start to finish. We had a very comfortable cool van to ride in. We had a bathroom stop and were inundated by people selling goods; if you are going to buy...make sure to barter. We were met by our Egyptologist, Neramena. She was amazing, incredibly knowledgeable and was highly covid responsible. She swiftly guided us by the throngs of people wanting us to buy their wares. We had a fun boat ride down the Nile to a cute restaurant on Banana Island which had ample food. We could not have asked for a better guide and would highly recommend this trip and this particular guide!

We were picked up from our hotel at 5.30am in a very comfortable vehicle. Our drive was 3.5 hours to our first stop, where we met with Marian who was our very friendly and knowledgeable guide for the whole day. After our first temple Marian said we were heading to the Nile where a boat would take us to a restaurant on the other side. She phoned our lunch order ahead and we had a lovely trip across. Lunch was plentiful and excellent. Soup, salad and flatbread with hummus, followed by chicken or beef or fish or vegetarian with rice. After lunch was the actual Vally of the kings then two more temples. We were really well looked after and I felt the extra cost to have our own vehicle and guide was well worth it. An amazing day we will all remember (6 of us). Special thanks to our wonderful guide Marian.

Amazing tour with a wonderful guide and driver

Our private tour of Luxor was wonderful. Driver arrived at hotel promptly at the agreed time. Our tour guide Mahmoud Nour was wonderful! He first explained the plan for the day so that we would know what to expect and the timeline. His plan was perfect. There were multiple times that we were the only people in a tomb/area. The boat ride and lunch were a wonderful break from touring. Food was excellent. Mahmoud routinely checked to make sure we had enough water and that we were still happy with the plan. He is also a great photographer and he suggested several photos that we wouldn't have considered. So happy with our decision to book the tour and thankful we got such a wonderful guide.

This was a long day trip from Hurghada but well worth it. Guide (Mohammed) was excellant and gave us just the right level of information at each of the places we visited. We also had some time to explore on our own. The lunch and setting was lovely and we enjoyed the boat trip on the Nile. The guide also took some pictures for us so we had some photos with us both in. We felt safe at all times during the trip and were escorted through all the bazaars so didn't feel pressured at all. Unfortunatley the car we were in had a mechanical fault which meant the day was much longer than planned however we were well looked after and the tour provider compensated us for this on our return. December was a great time to do this excursion as the weather was not to hot and the sights were not busy.

Summary: A great trip with a very...

Summary: A great trip with a very knowledgable guide, be aware it's a very long day with long travel times 4 hours of quite scary driving each way - although we took our 11 and 5 year olds they really struggled towards the end with the travelling and the heat much hotter than Hurghada, to the point we decided to skip the trip on the Nile as it would have been too much for them. Food was excellent but limited choice chicken, beef or fish so be aware if you have fussy eaters! Worst features are the toilets - not particularly clean and you had to pay 2 each at Karnak as well as pushy bazaars at the entrance to each temple. Would we recommend the trip - definitely but you must accept the toilet facilities are generally poor and you will have to pay it's hot I mean really hot and you will spend a good 8-9 hours driving! We were picked on time at our hotel in a modern clean minivan with a friendly driver who spoke some english. The journey to Luxor was initially very smooth on well paved modern roads through the desert/mountains with fantastic views. There are however a number of security checkpoints complete with armed guards to break up the flow. Traffic laws in Egypt are 'interesting' with lane discipline clearly optional so it's quite an 'exciting' journey! We stopped after about 1.5hrs at a small coffee shop with a few market stalls attached, there were reasonable toilets tipping clearly expected to use them and the ability to buy snacks/drinks at fairly reasonable prices. This stop lasted abut 30mins and there were a number of other minivans and coaches arriving during the time we were there. The journey then continues in a similar vein until you reach the first city Qena where the roads become more congested and the standard of driving more questionable with donkeys, carts, pedestrians, cars, lorries and coaches all involved in a battle for the fastest route! The area is a stark contrast to the resorts of Hurghada with the poverty of the area becoming more apparent. Travelling into Luxor we picked up Abdul Ahmed our guide and headed to the Valley of the kings. The first thing we found out was to stick with the guide through the Bazaar you had to walk through on entry and exit of the valley. This was an amazing experience but due to a break down in communications we left cameras on the bus as instructed however, you could buy a photography license for 300LE to allow photography. The tombs were spectacular, 3 are included in the trip and you can pay to enter more including Tutankhamun's we decided not to pay the extra as each tomb was similar with little left inside apart from the decorations. The facilities at the Valley of the kings were barely acceptable and once again a tip was required to use them. The next stop was at one of the many Alabaster factories close to the valley of the kings, we were given a demonstration of how the products were made before being given soft drinks inside the shop and the ability to use the SPOTLESS toilets. Be careful in the shop as there are no prices given until you have selected any goods and let me assure you while they were amazing they were not cheap. It's worth noting this stop was not in the itinerary and was a way to try to get you to purchase from the shop, personally we didn't mind the intrusion and the shop staff were friendly and polite without being pushy but we did buy a fair amount of products so be aware it may be different if you don't! Next we headed to the Temple of Hatshepsut again an amazing spectacle but with dubious facilities again a cost to use the toilets and my god was it hot! The same Bazaar was evident on the entrance/exit and you were pestered despite the best efforts of our guide to deflect the sellers. It was at this point we found out that the Island restaurant did not have chicken so we opted for the in town option as the kids were more likely to eat! Lunch was good with an Egyptian Mezze, soup and grilled chicken on the menu, food was well prepared and very tasty and the restaurant itself clean and tidy. Next up is Karnak which was probably our favourite part of the trip with an amazing temple and history. At this point however we decided to cancel the boat trip on the Nile it appeared we were due a motorboat trip not a Felluca. Throughout our guide was knowledgeable and informative if possibly slightly too detailed for the children and was helpful in catering for our needs as a group. The trip home was similar to the trip out but is anything even faster and under cover of darkness - which I'm not sure if it made it more or less scary!

Fantastic tour - seeing 3 of the tombs at the Valley of the Kings as well as Hatshepsut Temple but the absolute highlight was Karnak Temple - just unfortunate we couldn't spend longer at Karnak. Our guide, Mohammad, was fantastic, so knowledgeable and great at answering all of our questions, even from the kids. Food for lunch was average. The only drawback was the driving - our drivers travelled at 130km/hr for much of the trip and tailgated so much and also used their mobile phones while driving - certainly didn't feel safe - and they didn't really adjust when we asked them to slow down and not follow so closely.
