Meet your guide in the morning at either the JR Toro Station or the Toro Nature Center. Please let the guide know in advance if you plan to arrive by train.

Complete a short safety orientation and some necessary paperwork at the Nature Center reception, and then proceed to the Red-crowned Crane House. Check out the center’s exhibits detailing the crane’s typical behavior and habits, and then follow your guide to some of the best locations to observe these unique birds in their natural habitats.

Take a deep breath and soak in the solitude of the Kushiro Marshlands area, watching these graceful creatures from afar. At the end of your excursion your guide will bring you back to the Toro Nature Center or the JR Toro Station.

Toro Nature Center
At around 9:30am meet your guide at the Toro Nature Center or at JR Toro train station. Advise the tour operator beforehand if you plan to arrive by train. After filling some necessary documents at the reception and completing the safety orientation, proceed to the Red-crowned Crane House. Learn more about the cranes from the various materials available and then follow your guide to the best locations where you can spot cranes. Enjoy the surrounding nature while observing these cranes in their natural habitat. These birds are among the rarest cranes in the world, known in some places as a symbol of luck, longevity, and fidelity. When the tour ends, your guide takes you back to the Toro Nature Center or to JR Toro Station. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.

This trip was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Terry ,our guide was very knowledgable about the area and the cranes. We were able to see cranes in 5 different locations: not only at feeding stations but also where they sleep in the river, living on the farm and some lone cranes close to the railway line. This is a very nice trip. The Japanese guide could speak good English. Detailed stories of the marshland and the red-crowned cranes were tole by the fabulous guide. Everything was smooth. If the trip could cover more spots would be perfect. The cost of the trip may be a little bit costly. However it is highly recommended to go by guided trip in Hokkaido winter . You will be for sure have peace of mind. Since the marshland there is in the countryside, to schedule buses for the area may cost lots of time and you may encounter some difficulties in a snowy cold winter .
