A Perfect Day in Paradise!
Jodi_W
, Jun 2022
An absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! We were met by our driver right at the port where we got off the ship and he gave us a mini tour of the island. He knew everyone and everything! When we arrived at Paradise Cove, we were greeted by Barry, the owner himself. He gave us detailed instructions on how to enjoy the reef without damaging it. I had a great conversation with the lady that was running the gift shop. We saw a good variety of sea life including several large turtles. If you’re looking for a snobby resort, this experience is not for you. This is a rare opportunity to share in a down home personal experience provided by local people in a “mom and pop” type atmosphere. They are passionate about the island and really take the time to share history and the way of the land and sea. We can’t wait to go back!

Paradise Cove Review
HOWARD_F
, May 2022
We booked the all day excursion to Paradise Cover with the lunch, beach chair rental. Kayaks, and paddleboarding. Snorkling was very nice. Saw sea turtles, nice reef, and plenty of fish. Very shallow at low tide. Whole area is only 3ft deep and tide recedes out 20ft at low tide.
Lunch was atrocious. Bring your own. Was worse than ballpark food.
Place was secluded and nice.
Transportation was great but picked up at 1050 at Taino Beach Resort then picked up one other family and dint arrive until just before noon. Had lunch, then snorkled, then relaxed on the beach. Left at 430. Was enough time but if you wanted to paddleboard or kayak then time was short.
Overall top notch but next time would do the snorkle only option, bring a lunch and rent the chairs and lockers.

Disappointing Excursion

Made the mistake of thinking we were going to a resort beach. It was a hut on the shore. Beach chairs were included in all inclusive but umbrellas were extra. The beach was maybe 30 feet deep and about 80 feet wide. Whole experience was far below expectations.

Booked as my cruise excursion, driver was on time and got us back to the ship on time. The staff on the island were sweet and accommodating. No issues , swam next to sea turtles , didn’t swim that far out but other guest saw sting rays and peaceful sharks. Lots of coral& food was good! Over all very glad to purchase this!

Not a resort paradise cove.

It was a little paradise at this Cove. Our transport was an hour late getting to the port. Our expectation with a day pass at a resort. Paradise cove is a small stretch of beach that has large platform rigs on its right and bundles of roped rocks outlining its bay. The beach bar and kitchen are small wooden shacks. Lounge chairs are vinyl with beach umbrellas extra. The saving grace was the snorkeling. Deadman’s reef was beautiful, lots of fish, coral and sea turtles but a good 150 yards out so required good swimming. The current strong enough that I would not recommend this for inexperienced snorkelers. No lifeguard. And backside of reef is NOT visible from shore. No safety structure on back didevof reef to aid a swimmer in trouble. The package deal for cruise ship was a rip. Bring your own equipment and go a la carte. The food they offered was the most basic, the drinks they offered (soda or water) and the rum drink didn’t include an expected frozen drink but rather a small plastic Dixie cup with rum punch poured out of a gallon jug. This is not a resort. It is not a pristine beach. No palm trees (hurricane Irma must have taken them out). Even with package they nickel and dimed - $7 for umbrella $6 for locker etc. if you go (not much in Freeport) go for the snorkeling.

Thanks for your review and for the information you gave. First let me apologize for the late pick up, not sure what happened but we go by what is listed on our cruise arrival manifest. sometimes the time listed are in EST and you may have been on central time which would make us one hour late. This seems to be the case here as we were exactly one hour late. As for the oil platforms they are not permanent only temporary they have only been there for about two months and will leave soon.with your package you only got the snorkel only option and that does not include all the extras. hurricane Irma? not sure if that even hit us but Hurricane Dorian did remove a few trees which hit us in September 2019. if you were looking a very high end resort then Paradise Cove was not for you. We have well maintained, clean and basic facilities and we offer food and drinks from a beach bar and grill. I'm glad you enjoyed the snorkeling and got to see the great sea life that we offer.
thanks,
Barry

Great Snorkel

If you are a brave ocean goer this was a great snorkel experience. Beautiful fish, several sea turtles, sting ray, coral, and water. The view in the deeper area looked like it was used to shoot shark week, so colorful and such beautiful fish. Never saw a shark and loved the experience. Even my younger children (7 and 9) went a short piece into the deep.

Our name wasn’t on the list when we arrived with the group. We were told we were with a different driver. Took us to the wrong place an our away from where we were supposed to be. Driver was kind enough to call the number on our Viator ticket. We were told they had us on the list for the day before, which was not what our tickets said. We were told to call Viator for a refund and were charged for the transport to the wrong location. Called Viator who blamed imposters. I was able to get a refund. Very disappointing day. I’ll pay extra and book with the ship next time.

Transportation was ready on time. Nice clean vehicle. Driver polite. He did not have me listed as a pick up but I showed him my ticket. He spoke with someone via phone and so we boarded the bus/van. At the destination, I again had to show my ticket... not a big problem. The staff, including the one who appeared in charge are not overly friendly... the accommodations are as described. The snorkeling was awesome! We saw lots of fish and sea turtles! I would definitely do this excursion again!

The snorkeling was great. BUT you need to know this: 1 the kayaking and paddle boarding are one hour each. Not a pass for all day. 2 no one watches you in water. While paddle boarding, my son and I got caught in high winds and a current and couldn't get back. We waved and struggled for more than 30 minutes before another guest saw us and got help. We were exhausted and my son's feet were cut up from landing on coral every time the waves blew him off. He is an experienced paddle boarder - not a novice. 3 The driver was 30 minutes late that morning and for those who bought a half day package - they were really irritated b/c their trip was cut short.

This truly is Paradise Cove. I almost stayed in bed this day and skipped out but I am forever grateful that I got up. Everything about this was perfect. The safety presentation was informative and also made me comfortable to be out exploring. I have never had a better experience in my life and can say that this has lit a spark in me for snorkeling. We also went to Nassau and hands down I wish we would have went two days to Freeport just so I could visit Paradise Cove again.
The driver was very organized and made sure everyone was accounted for to and from Paradise Cove.
We followed the Safety Guide's recommendations on where to snorkel and saw a TON. More than 6 sea turtles grouped together, barracudas, parrotfish, stingray, grouper, sea urchin, a nurse shark, and almost any other fish you will find when searching Bahama's fish.
The water was chilly but thankfully they had VERY cheap wetsuits for rent. Everyone who worked there seemed like they genuinely cared about the Cove and it's preservation.
I didn't have any of the food, but the blended drinks are very cheap and very generous!
The price, the view and the people who run this are worth paying ever penny for. Thank you all for the experience, hopefully one day I'll be back to rent one of the Villa's

Freeport itself isn't great, very depressing ride to get to the location, was a chilly day here and ocean was cold but we did snorkel and saw sea turtle and amazing colorful fish. Our driver was very nice local man Mr. Parker informed us of the Bahama life and government since Hurricane Matthew. Just something to do, don't expect much . Food prices high and limited menu for a shack on the beach. Friendly staff .

We got a late start because our boat was late docking. Mr Parker our driver was awesome, telling us the history of the island, about the people, the impact of the storms. It is a sad ride thru neighborhoods that have seen better days. Arriving at the beach, I expected beautiful white sand, but found rocks that were hard to walk over to get to the snorkel area. To be fair, I had never snorkeled before, and I am not sure if it was low tide, but it is really hard to snorkel in 6 inches of water. My friend and I gave up, and just grabbed a beer and conch fritters and waited for Mr. Parker to return us to the boat. The conch fritters and beer was excellent!
