Wonderful Alternative to Sun and Sand - Go Native for an Afternoon
, Oct 2021
After seemingly countless visits to Cozumel beaches during cruise port visits, my wife and I opted to go a bit more "native". The Cozumel Food Tour was an amazing trip DEEP into Cozumel authenticity. I can promise you will not see any other tourists during this fantastic journey into Mexican cuisine. The food was delicious at all 5 stops - each unique in their offerings but common in their welcoming hospitality. Jerry was a fun and knowledgeable guide. The trip is safe and our driver was always steps away keeping the large taxi secure with our bags. If you're worried about potential follow-on gastrointestinal distress - don't be.

Geraldo was an amazing guide and took us to places you can’t find on the internet and everything was delicious!

Thank you for your 5 star review! Glad you enjoyed!

Gerald was a great tour guide. Since there were only two people on this tour, our experience was somewhat limited! It would have been more interesting to interact with other tourists! Gerald (I hope I am spelling his name correctly) was very knowledgeable about the foods that the natives of Cozumel prepare and eat! If there would have been more people on the tour we would have been more comfortable in the promised air conditioned minivan! But that is one of the unforeseen consequences of Covid!! We are big fans of Viator and have enjoyed your excursions in several countries!

Oh if we could have more guests we would! During the month of July Cozumel was in the color "orange" and out of Covid precautions tours were running privately, so unfortunately it was just the two of you - and yes, no van. I do hope you took advantage of the one-on-one time with Gerardo. We love him as our foodie guide! Thank you so much for joining us for a fun food filled day! We hope you come back in the future when we are "officially in green".

Gerry was very friendly and knowledgeable He shared his love of the island with us. We especially enjoyed walking through the local outdoor market and learning about the foods that are indigenous to the island and the Yucatán. We would never have tried some of the fruits if Gerry had not explained everything so well. It was inspiring to is foodies and also very fun

Thank you for joining Gerry for a fun food filled day. I am so glad that you enjoyed the market tour. We think it's an important aspect of the tour - not just the eating part. I am glad that you were adventurous enough to try some of the unique fruits too! Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
A must do for food lovers!!

Cuisine exploration experience in Cozumel
, Feb 2020
Our family enjoys sampling local cuisine, and this was a great way to do it. Our guide was enthusiastic and friendly, and took us to restaurants we would never have found on our own, and allowed us to try foods that we wouldn't have thought to order. We really enjoyed this trip

I like your review title! That's exactly what we aim to be a "cuisine exploration experience". Beautiful! Thank you so much for bringing your family on this fun food filled day in Cozumel! Glad that you found our guide to be entertaining and that you got a chance to try some foods you would never have thought to order! Come back soon!
Not your typical tour option.

Overall, a worthwhile tour. If you add up the value of the food alone, it is not worth the price. But if you consider that these are very much "off the beaten path" locations, the guided tour makes it worth the expense. A word of caution...if you are finicky about U.S. health standards, this is definitely not the tour for you; none of the locations would pass health inspections here in the States. At the first stop, for example, the beverages were served in "recycled" (used) water bottles. One nice aspect of the tour is that beverages (even beer) were included at all the stops except the final bakery. My biggest complaint is that the photo of the beautifully plated whole fish is NOT part of the tour! That photo alone is how I "sold" my wife on the idea, and yet it was never an option on the tour. If you've been to Cozumel many times (as we have), and are tired of the typical touristy options, this is an enjoyable, relaxing, and weatherproof alternative. No gimmicky sales pitches, no "made in China" souvenirs...just authentic, real food options. Not your typical tour, not for everyone...but if you book it with your eyes open, you'll probably enjoy it.

I always appreciate reviews like this. Our intent for this tour is to get people out of their comfort zones and off-the-beaten path. It is clear we have done this. I however also caution readers with reviews like this as "US health standards" should not be the standard (I could site many health issues with the US's mass produced/ factory created food supply chain, but I digress). The recycled "bottles" do in fact go back to the water company on the island to be sanitized (just like the good ol' fashioned glass coke bottles you see everywhere in Mexico). That beautiful fish is included on the tour (just not on Monday's as this restaurant is closed, but we do substitute this spot with one of the BEST shrimp taco places in town). Thank you for the feedback, we certainly appreciate it. If you are looking for a REAL, authentic culinary experience of Mexico you have found it with us!
Great Food Tour In Cozumel!

Had a really fun time on the tour. It started out rocky: out meeting place turned out to be in the middle of Cozumel's Independence Day Parade!!! We had to walk 3 blocks to get to the spot, and were wondering how we were going to connect with our guide. Turned out he was there waiting for us! He had to walk 3 blocks also! When we got the tour started it went great. We were taken to 5 different spots for really good local food, with explanations of each food as we ate. Out tour guide was very friendly and helpful and answered all our questions. Overall the tour was fantastic!! We will go again on our next cruise to Cozumel.

If you want to get away from the touristy part of Cozumel, this is the tour for you! If you are tired of the same shops and tourist traps then this is the tour for you! If you are tired of the same tours and excursions that the cruise ships offer then this tour is for you. Our tour guide, Gerry, took us into central Cozumel, away from the tourist traps, and showed us the true lives of the people of Cozumel. We visited a local market where the families shop for the freshest produce, spices, meats, and fish, as well as hard goods like clothing and shoes. We ate at some wonderful local places that are attached to homes that have been in the same families for generations. We ate cactus (Nopales) and corn smut (huitlacoche) quesadillas, pork tacos, limon (lima) chicken soup, fresh fried snapper, ceviche, and drank horchata, hibiscus water, lime/cucumber water, ate fresh warm tortillas from the tortilla factory, and finished the tour at a bakery! None of this required much walking. We rode in an air conditioned taxi/van with a wonderful driver who parked right in front of each place we visited.
