Milestii Mici Winery with Tasting

This tour consists of a quick drive around the underground wine caves which house lots of bottles of wine with a running commentary. However, it didn't include a tour of any vineyards or any information on how / where the wine is made. It felt like it was quite rushed. The tasting was generous and there was a good selection of nibbles but I was left alone for 20mins or so to taste the wine which was a little odd / awkward. I would not recommend doing this tour as a solo traveller unless you know that there are other travellers taking part in the tour too. I do not think this tour was value for money for the price I paid for it.

Moldova is renown for its wine, and Milestii Mici offers a wonderful opportunity to experience that reason first hand. At a total length of around 200 km and with nearly 2 million bottles, it rightfully boasts having the largest wine cellars in the world. I was picked up promptly at my AirBnB and ferried along with one other passenger to the winery, which is about 20 km from the Moldovan capital Chisinau. We teamed up with a guide and drove underground until we reached a location where we left the vehicles and proceeded, along with a dozen or so others, on a 20-30 minute walk through the cellar. NOTE: Bring a jacket. It gets chilly underground. The extravagant wine enthusiast can even rent a spot in the cellar in which to store those more precious bottles. At the end of the tour, we were led to a tasting room, given three generous jugs of different wines to try, accompanied by some tasty savory snacks and serenaded by musicians. The whole thing was very convivial and was a perfect introduction to the Moldovan wine scene. My only regret is that I can't seem to find their wine here in the US.

I really enjoyed my tour. The driver did not introduce himself or speak English so could not tell me about Moldova. I only knew I had the right car because it had Best Moldova on it. In the winery we had an English speaking guide,

Our driver, Viktor, picked us up at our hotel in a clearly marked van. There had been some snowfall the night before and it was snowing pretty heavily on our trip to the winery, but Viktor got us there safely. Once we got to the winery, a tour guide from the Winery got in the vehicle with us and gave us the tour, in English. We were able to get out of the vehicle and take pictures on a couple occasions and also walked through some parts of the Winery. We had a sampling of three wines, a white, red and port plenty of wine for three people. It was also served in crackers, cheese, dried fruit, nuts. Great tour. Small gift shop on site.

The wine tasting was the best part. Driving through the underground streets was unique but too fast.

The Winery is amazing. It is quite an experience going to wine cellar with a car. The tour guide was very informative. The lunch itself was excellent. We got a chance to taste 3 different wines and shared lots of fun with our group members.

Vi blev upphämtade kl 10:00 av en minibuss som körde oss och två andra personer till Milestii Mici. Resan dit tog ca 30 minuter. Utanför vinkällaren var det två fina fontäner som var kul att fotografera innan vi startade guidningen. Vi fick en guide som var duktig på engelska och som på ett kul sätt guidade oss under turen. Vi åkte med minibussen ner på vägar nere under marken, flera kilometer och fick möjlighet att gå in i gångarna där vinet ligger på lagring. Turen avslutades med att vi fick provsmaka 3 viner, vitt, rött och ett sött dessertvin. Till vinet serverades tilltugg, charkuterier. Otroligt intressant och kul upplevelse att se världens största vinkällare!
