With this ticket to the fabulous  Mémorial de Caen museum, you're free to explore the exhibits at your leisure – including starting your visit anytime you like while the museum is open.

This facility is both a museum and a war memorial, dedicated to putting into perspective the events of World War II that destroyed most of Caen and devastated the surrounding area. The timeline of the exhibits begins at the conclusion of World War I and ends at the fall of the Berlin Wall, giving viewers a much broader sense of the historical impact of the Battle of Normandy which liberated Caen.

While the museum features decades' worth of history, the centerpiece of the  Mémorial de Caen is related to D-Day. This is the only museum in the Normandy region that gives visitors an opportunity to learn so much about the Normandy landings from the perspective of both sides in the war, with incredibly detailed accounts of the 100-day campaign afterward.

Begin your visit to the museum with a film about D-Day, which will set the stage for the remainder of your tour. The film includes both archival footage and footage from fictional movies. Another film you can watch, called 'Hope for the Future,' begins in the 1940s and goes through the end of the 20th century.

There is an audio guide for the museum that is available in six languages, or you can choose to simply explore on your own through the interactive exhibits. There are two on-site restaurants in the museum – the Café du Mémorial, an informal spot where you can get sandwiches and salads, and La Terrasse, a more formal sit-down restaurant – where you can have a midday break (own expense). If you prefer, you're welcome to bring the fixings for a picnic to spread out on the museum lawn. And if you don't feel like you've seen everything in the museum by day's end, your ticket is valid for a full 24 hours from the time you first enter the museum, so you can return the next day to complete your visit.

Don't buy from viator. Check the museum website for cheaper and faster tickets

The museum was great. But don't by the ticket via viator. The charge extra (if you buy from the museum you'll pay 19 euro) and the booking reference is not your ticket so u still have to get in line in order to get your real ticket for the entrance. Also viator clames that you can use the ticket 24 hour after the time you check in. But that is not true anymore.

The best WWII museum you will find. This is our second time visiting the museum and this time we devoted the full day to really enjoying and taking advantage of what the museum has to offer. Both times I have ben with my oldest son who was 12 and 18 on our respective visits. This museum has been one of the highlights in our trips to Normandy over the years.

The statue in the front (sailor kissing girl--the iconic Times Sq. photo) was a perfect start to a well planned guide to how WWII came about and the impact it had on so many millions of humans on the Earth. I was curious why this particular ground was chosen, learning later of the Nazi bunker under the structure that one can tour. Outstanding. Finally, the 50th anniversary U.S. memorial resonated with me after reading the passage in the floor of the entrance: "From the heart of our land flows the blood of our youth, given to you in the name of freedom."

We booked all of our activities through Viator and had a wonderful experience. I needed to change one reservation before we even left the U.S.A. and the staff was very accommodating. We drove from Paris to Caen, which took longer than we expected so missed our reserved date for admission to the museum, but went the following day and the museum staff were very gracious and accepted our vouchers. We definately will use Viator again! Victoria P.

Gran museo.
