A MUST due on the island

By far the most amazing thing we did on Kona Island. The crew was great provided drinks and snacks the whole time The manta rays were huge. There were six of them while we were there and they do swim right up under you. They provided nice wetsuit tops and ended your trip with a hot shower on the boat which was welcomed.

The experience was AWESOME! Jacob and Adam made sure everyone was well taken care of! They took us to a spot where we saw several mantas and thousands of tiny silvery fish. It was like being in a fantasy world! I would highly recommend Hang Loose and the Moonlight Snorkeling with Mantas excursion!

Night snorkel with Manta rays

Great crew, Capt. Simon, Danny, Ula, and Kenny. They set up all lights and boards for us first, so we had manta rays as soon as we hit the water. Just a caution for those who have trouble with motion sickness, it's about a 20-25 minute ride to the bay we went to north of Honokahau Harbor, and the crew has to load all equipment before leaving the snorkel site, so be prepared, but truly an unbelievable experience!

A unique experience

This was really a fantastic choice for us because it was such a unique experience. Nothing like we had ever done before. The guide/owner and his co-workers were fantastic. They were very laid back and super helpful. Everything was going to be okay, and they assured you of that from the very first moment. We all got outfitted with our gear and then got on the boat and took the short 25-minute boat ride out to the location where the manta rays would be. There were other boats there when we arrived and that was just fine because we parked a ways away. The other workers on the boat jumped in the water to locate where the manta rays were. They're attracted to the blue light due to their constant experiences with associating that with safety and feeding so it was just a matter of locating where the manta rays were and drawing them near. The workers set out floats on the water that had lights attached to them and then everyone (with a wetsuit top provided) made their way out to the floats to hang on to the perimeter of them and float while the rays swam under us. They placed noodles under your feet so you would not accidentally kick one of the rays. As multiple rays passed by under us, some 10 ft or more in span, they would barrel roll right underneath your face and it was truly amazing. We did go in June and the water was tolerable but cool because it was at night. The wetsuits helped tremendously with that, but of course you could only tolerate it for so long in comfort. Overall every detail was considered, even down to having a warm shower and snacks as you got back on the boat, and we would absolutely do it all over again!
