Fun way to explore Athens!

I was a little hesitant to book this tour because Viator had no prior reviews and other food tours had numerous positive reviews. But, the afternoon time slot worked best for our family (ages ranging from 76-2), so I booked it for our first day in Athens. Our tour had several other families with grandparents as well as children ages 7-9. Our guide, Mia, was enthusiastic, fun, and considerate of the walking pace and needs of everyone on the tour, including those that were vegetarians. We explored several restaurants, shops, and vendors in the Monastiraki and Psyrri neighborhoods that frankly, we would never have found or attempted to find on our own. We wandered through small back alleys and lanes that not only led to the next delicious food discovery, but imparted a lovely flavor of the culture and neighborhoods in this area of Athens. I enjoyed the sights as much as the food! The tour was informative, we learned about many traditional Greek dishes, and left us happy, full, and excited for our remaining days in Athens! I later found our route followed parts of the Rick Steves walking tour of this area, but in reflection I don't know if we would have been able to do his tour on our own, since the small alleys and lanes are not easily marked and times felt well off the beaten path. Having a guide made the process easy and additionally took the guess work out of choosing which food vendors to try out of a sea of them clamoring for attention.
