Splash through the Icelandic wilderness and enjoy family-friendly adventure on this 3.5-hour rafting trip on the West Glacial River from Hafgrímsstaðir. Climb into your drysuit at the rafting base in Hafgrímsstaðir. Then, travel onward by bus to the banks of the choppy but gentle West Glacial River. With your paddle in hand, hop aboard your raft and follow the current downstream. Navigate the course with your guide and enjoy breathtaking views over the rolling riverbanks. Finish your adventure with a cliff jump and a swim in the glacial waters.

We are located 15km south of Varmahlíð on Road #752. We are on your LEFT just after crossing a little bridge over a river.

This activity will end right where it started.

  • Recommended items to bring with you: Thermal underwear/base layers, warm fleece top/wool sweater, fleece pants/extra long johns, thick wool socks/hiking socks (at least 1 pair), change of clothes for after the river, any necessary medications (asthma inhalers, etc.), waterproof camera (optional)

This was the first time I'd ever done white water rafting and I loved it. It was the perfect grade for my 7 year old who had a fantastic time. The team who took us out three boats of people were fantastic and made it fun for all of us, whether that was swimming down the river or cliff jumping optional!!!!, through to the good natured ribbing of people on the boats. I'd highly recommend it

This was an excellent trip for our kids 10 and 12 who are novices at whitewater. The guides did a great job explaining safety rules, the equipment and how a boat works together to go through rapids. We had a great time drinking hot chocolate made from fresh volcanic spring water and jumping off of a cliff into ice cold glacier water thanks to the dry suits. My kids loved the day and were doing things I never expected like jumping off a cliff! Thanks Phil and the rest of the team for making our day safe and fun!!!

It was a long drive from Reykjavik but well worth it! We all had a brilliant time and the guides were superb. Once our youngest is a bit older we would definitely try another rafting trip on a bigger river. Well done guys! John, Michael and Sousane
