The basics

The Zurich Opera House is home to the Zurich Opera, the Bernhard-Theater Zurich, and the Zurich Ballet. It was designed by Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer and was built on the site of a theater that burned down in 1890. The auditorium seats up to 1,100 people, and the detailed paintings on the ceiling keep visitors entertained before the shows even start. Hundreds of operas, ballets, recitals, and other concerts are held here annually, and it’s one of the most internationally acclaimed venues of its kind. Whether or not you see a performance here, the Zurich Opera House is worth visiting. Visitors can get inside with a ticket to a show, or as part of a guided tour.

Trudy was a lovely guide, so informative and entertaining. Dispite the problem with the air conditioned of the bus, the tour was perfect.

finalized our trip to Switzerland with the tour in Zurich. Was happy to be a little apart from the city-hassle and our tourguide did a great job. He understood what we wanted and didn't bore us with numbers. To get a overview of Zurich it's the perfect tour.

Zurich City Highlights Tour with Felsenegg Cable Car and Ferry Ride
The tour touched major highlights of the city and surrounding areas. Very well organized with just enough time at the scheduled stops. Our guide, Annette, was very knowledgeable. The only minor challenge was her German accent for an English speaking tour. An overall very good experience!

Zurich City Highlights Tour with Felsenegg Cable Car and Ferry Ride
Overall good experience. Could do without the local political jibberish by the guide. Also, time at the top could/ should be cut in half. One more thing, the local marathon, I’m sure was scheduled months in advance. The alternate route was a waste of time and our money!

Zurich City Highlights Tour with Felsenegg Cable Car and Ferry Ride
Walk along she shore line with views of Alps was spectacular. The drive through the Old Town area was educational. The ferry ride across the water was beautiful. The clog ride up the hill to the beautiful old hotel gave a beautiful view over the city. To top it off, who wouldn’t like a visit to the Chocolate factory? Yum!

When to get there

Most performances are held in the evenings, with some matinee timings too. If you come in the weeks leading up to Christmas, you should try to arrive early to browse the Christmas Market that’s set up just outside the Opera House.
