Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls, Yosemite National Park, CA

The Basics

You can spot the iconic waterfall from various vantage points within the park, including Yosemite Village and Yosemite Valley Lodge (formerly Yosemite Lodge at the Falls). For active viewers, a 1-mile loop trail leads to the base of Lower Yosemite Fall, or a strenuous (and usually crowded) 3.5-mile (5.6-kilometer) hike with 2,700 feet (823 meters) elevation gain beginning near Camp 4 hike takes you to the top of Yosemite Falls.

Due to the incredibly popularity of this natural attraction, Yosemite Falls is included in most park tours. You can see the falls, along with other park attractions—El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, Vernal Falls, Half Dome, the Chapel, and the Cathedral Spires—on a day tour from San Francisco or Fresno.

A must to do when you visiting San Francisco
Trip was well worth it and a must if you have a day when visiting San Francisco. Request Brain out tour guy was great from start to finish. Yes it is a long day but he made it fun. Knew the best places for photos and helped you with them. Has telescopes and binoculars when he spotted climbers camps on El Captain which we wouldn't have caught without him.

Long day but great experience. Brian the tour guide was very nice and helpful. We saw all the highlights in one day. Grocery store stop was nice and clean. Only some bathrooms in the park were sketchy. He was very helpful in taking pictures and showing us how to get the best spots for photos. Also the nicest park was using binoculars to look at rock climbers

Gino was very enthusiastic and helpful. I would have liked the chance to get to the NPS visitors center but I'm guessing bus parking and/or covid closures made the difficult. It was a beautiful day. Thank you!

2-Day Yosemite National Park Tour from San Francisco
Amazing 2 day experience. Be sure to bring plenty of water for the sequoia hike a no water sources are available there. Cedar Lodge is a lovely place to relax before day 2. Great food, very clean. Bike rental on day 2 is highly recommended since the valley terrain is flat and there is so much to see. Swimming in the Mercede River was a definite highlight.

1 day Yosemite and Giant Sequoia Tour from Groveland
Most important was the airB and B in Groveland, CA. It was so graciously prepared with many extras. The place was very clean. It was close to a beautiful Lake, with jet skies, KyateE, boat rentals etc. Loved the 8 hr Tour they picked us up in Groveland. It was awesome my whole family enjoyed it. Disappointed the Sunset hike was canceled. The Hollywood tour was also very enjoyable and fascinating . Thank you

Denise was an excellent driver and tour guide. Her knowledge of and enthusiasm for the area was great. She was concerned about our comfort and safety. She made sure we knew what to expect and that we were prepared with food and comfort stops. it was a very long day but definitely worth it.

Yosemite National Park and Giant Sequoias Day Trip from San Francisco
The tour was great! The vehicle used was clean and comfortable. Our tour guide and driver (Gino) provided us with a lot of information along the way and ample time on breaks. There is one food break going to and fro from Yosemite. when we arrived at the location our tour guide gave us time to explore the trails and area on our own.

Small Group Yosemite and Giant Sequioas Day Trip from San Francisco
As we were only in the area for a short amount of time, we chose this as a day trip. Our tour guide Brian was phenomenal and so knowledgeable; his love for Yosemite really shone and he tried to share as much as possible. While it was a long day, we had so much fun and was incredibly memorable. Everything was very well organized and I could not recommend this tour enough.

How to Get There

Access Lower Yosemite Fall near the Yosemite Valley Lodge; the top of the upper fall is accessed via a steep hiking trail. For a great (and underrated) view of the falls, consider hiking to the summit of Sentinel Dome.

When to Get There

Yosemite Falls is at its most spectacular in the spring, with peak runoff occurring in May or June. The falls tend to dry to a trickle by late summer, but autumn rainfall rejuvenates it beginning in November.

Natural Phenomena at Yosemite Falls

On a clear night with plenty of moonlight and enough water to create mist, see if you can spot a “moonbow.” During the winter, an ice cone tends to form at the base of the upper fall, while frost accumulates along the edges of the falls.
