A morning paddle on Yellowstone Lake is a good way to start the day. We depart early to beat the strong wind that can form later in the day. Also morning is the best time of the day to spot wildlife. Your kayak instructor will brief you on what to expect and acquaint your group with the kayaks and kayak paddle strokes. After we get underway, we will journey from the Grant Village Marina to the West Thumb Geyser Basin. The sight of the steaming geyser basin is sure to make lifetime memories. There are big mountain views of the Absaroka Range across the vast lake. This is family adventure travel at its best. Splashy, yet safe. Scenic, yet adventurous. A workout, yet playful. Spend the day looking for wildlife throughout Yellowstone, focusing on Yellowstone’s Northern loop. You will visit areas such as Lamar or Haden Valley for the chance to see bears, wolves, coyotes, bison, elk, and pronghorn. You will also explore river corridors, valleys, forests, and other habitats looking for other animals including, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, river otters, and other species. While traveling through these area you will also have a chance to enjoy the scenic vistas these animals call home. (This trip is your best chance to see a bear or wolf but no guarantees.)

We depart your accommodations and head towards Yellowstone’s northern range, undoubtedly one of the prime wildlife viewing spots in the world, it harbors impressive bison herds, wolf packs, and meandering bears. Visitors are likely to depart from the park’s northern lands with at least one, if not more, checks on their wildlife card. Wild and pristine. When thinking about Yellowstone, a vast and amazing back-country, large carnivores, bison herds, iconic geysers, and geothermal features fill the imagination. Along the way we will stop to take mild/ fun hike or two to a secluded lake or waterfall. Mid way through the tour we will stop for a picnic lunch at a scenic area. Time permitting we will walk the boardwalks of Mammonth Hot Springs. Note: to maximize our chances of seeing wildlife this your leaves early AM.

This tour uses the Biscuit Basin Trailhead to start the six-mile loop hike through the entire Upper Geyser Basin and returning to Biscuit Basin. This is the only hiking tour of its kind offered regularly in Yellowstone. We encounter the very busy Old Faithful area as the mid-point of our hike. Sections of this hike are on boardwalk. There are also sections on dirt trail where there are few other hikers. We encounter wildlife from time to time including bison and bear. Your guide will have a bear spray.

Our private tours are led by experienced, knowledgeable, and local guides who have a formal education in natural science of wildlife biology. We will tour the park in a modern Chevy Suburban with leather seats, AC, and heated seats (cold months). During our day we will make our way through Yellowstone National Park in modern Chevy suburban while stopping for wildlife encounters, scenic and secluded hikes that lead to some of Yellowstone's iconic destinations. Along the way will take several mild to medium hikes to lesser known geysers/ hot springs to get us away from the crowds and off the beaten path We will view Old Faithful erupt, take in Lower Yellowstone Falls (308 feet high), take a quick hike on the rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, view bubbling paint pots, and many other geyser and hot springs along the way! We will enjoy a provided picnic lunch at a scenic location! In addition, we will provide complimentary spotting scopes, binoculars, and water for the entire group!

Our meeting time of 8:30 is the optimal time as we are one of the first to get on and usually get back before the strong afternoon winds pick up. Kayaking on lake Yellowstone on a old volcano is truly one of the top five things to do while in the park.
