Grand Prismatic Spring

Midway Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park

The Basics

One of the best ways to see Grand Prismatic Spring is on a Yellowstone Lower Loop tour, which might take you to the springs as well as other attractions like Norris Geyser Basin, Excelsior Geyser, and the Fountain Paint Pots in just one day. Once you arrive at Grand Prismatic, take a walk around the wooden boardwalk circling the spring and admire views of the colorful surface. Be warned, though, that the water itself is far too hot to touch. For the best view of the spring, take a short hike up one of the nearby hills (such as Midway Bluff) for a panoramic vantage point.

I couldn’t be happier with this experience on our tour! Joel was fun and full of knowledge and fun facts. The group we traveled with were great companions. The snacks/drinks/lunch were the perfect touch. The views and sights were fabulous, phenomenal, and we saw all the highlights of the park from Joel’s special viewing spots. Lower Loop Van Tour from West Yellowstone: Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful
Excellent! Our guide, Joel, was very convivial and knowledgeable about the parc, sites and animals (retired parc ranger). Although the tour lasted most of the day, time flew by. The quarter were tight in the van. A stepping stool was available to get in & out of the van for mobility impaired guest. The provided mid morning snack and lunch were appropriate.

Lower Loop Van Tour from West Yellowstone: Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful
It was great to have a knowledgeable and very friendly guide. Our guide, Emily's knowledge about Yellowstone and how she interacts with people shows her love for Yellowstone and her job! It was great having great spots to view popular areas and not worry about parking. Loved our lunch area by the lake! My only con was when I booked I read that there would only be 10 people in the van. The wasn't true. There were 15 total.people in the van, with a number of them coughing. Just praying that no one had the stealth COVID-19 omicron variant.
