Vintage and Classic Car Collection Museum
The museum was launched in February 2000 by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, founder of the UK's National Motor Museum, and is owned by Arvind Singh Mewar of the Udaipur Royal Family. This attraction gives visitors the chance to learn about classic and vintage cars with the aid of enthusiastic staff, while checking out some beautifully preserved old models. Some sightseeing tours of Udaipur include a visit to the Vintage and Classic Car Collection Museum.
Things to Know Before You Go
The museum is a must-visit for car lovers and a fun activity for families with kids.
Wear sunscreen and carry water, especially if you visit during the hotter months.
Travelers are allowed to pose inside some of the vehicles, so make sure to bring a camera.
How to Get There
The museum is located just north of Udaipur's Gulab Bagh Park, a 15-minute walk north of the Udaipur City railway station and a 15-minute walk southeast from the Jagdish Temple and City Palace area on the banks of Lake Pichola. The Udaipur Airport is about a half-hour away by car.
When to Get There
The museum is open from 9am to 9pm daily, but because most of it is outside, it’s best to visit early in the morning or during the evening, when temperatures are lower. Udaipur gets minimal rains during the monsoon season, but it’s best avoided during the hottest months of April and May.
The Ambassador India’s Beloved Car
India's most iconic car, and a popular model for taxi cabs (particularly in Mumbai) is the Hindustan Motors Ambassador, a ’50s-style sedan that was based on the Morris Oxford Series II. It was produced from 1958 to 2014 and retained the same general look and feel throughout its many years in production.
