Lonely Planet Experiences: Full Day Excursion to Olympic National Park

Lonely Planet Experiences: Full Day Excursion to Olympic National Park

star-4.5
2
Enjoy a small group tour to one of America's National Parks, and hike various trails in the Olympic Mountains. On your small group tour (up to 10 guests), you will be driven from Seattle on a scenic trail to the national park, where you will visit several areas of the park. Throughout the day, you will do 3-4 hikes, for a total of about 4.5 miles of gentle to moderate hiking, with as many breaks as you need. You’ll visit scenic Hurricane Ridge, one of the park’s gorgeous overlooks. On a clear day, you can see across the sound to Canada, but even on a cloudy day, there are ample opportunities to interact with the wildlife, including marmots and deer. You’ll visit Marymere Falls and Crescent Lake as well – two other favorite spots in the park. We recommend you dress in layers, and wear hiking boots (though they’re not essential). Please note: the hikes require a minimum level of fitness. You will be dropped off in central Seattle or at your hotel after about 12 hours.

The resident harbor seals and herons are always fun to watch too! We will learn how this critical component of our maritime industry and history transformed Seattle, and it's role in managing our fresh water lake systems. Then we're off to Gas Works to learn about this one-of-a-kind park, where we will see float planes taking off and landing, and enjoy stunning views of the city. Finally we will visit to the houseboat communities along Lake Union, a uniquely Seattle experience! Kids aged 8 and up are welcome, as I do not have car seats for younger ones.

1
Tucked neatly in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range is a Bavarian oasis. Central Washington is a geological wonder, where old-growth forests meet high-desert landscapes carved from the ice ages. And in the center of it all is the small town of Leavenworth. Here, German influence reigns supreme, with classic Bavarian architecture, wonderful gift shops, and authentic German pubs and eateries to sample. Chat with the local wine makers, olive oil producers and cheese mongers who produce the delectable local flavors. Immerse yourself in Old World Bavaria with the jagged peaks of the Cascade Mountains as a backdrop. There will be plenty of time for meals throughout the day, with excellent recommendations. Wine tasting is included, but lunch and other meals are not included. Please note: this tour is subject to cancellation due to inclement winter weather in the Cascade Mountains, which may close the pass.
