A Space Needle Employee’s Guide to Seattle
A Space Needle employee gives her insider tips on visiting the Seattle icon and the best of the rest Seattle has to offer.
The natural beauty of the UW campus draws in passers-by and potential students alike. You can stroll the grounds on your own or take a student-led guided tour. Admire the Collegiate Gothic architecture of iconic buildings such as the Suzzallo Library as you learn about the campus’ history. Plus, get a classic photo of the Drumheller Fountain—on clear days you might catch Mt. Reiner in the background. If you are looking to get out in nature, head to the waterfront activity center to rent a canoe and explore Lake Washington. Or, take a walk or jog along the scenic Burke-Gilman Trail.
From downtown Seattle, you can reach the campus by bus or the Link light rail. If arriving by plane, choose the Sea-Tac International Airport and ride the Link light rail to the UW stop. If you want to avoid the hassle of public transportation, you can book a Seattle city tour that visits the campus and includes round-trip transportation from your hotel.
The best time to visit UW is in the springtime when the campus’ famous cherry trees—surrounding the Quad and Drumheller Fountain—are in full bloom. Check the campus’ online schedule to attend a sporting event, concert, or lecture.
Surrounded by the Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound, the “Emerald City” is home to countless parks and green spaces. While visiting UW, take time to explore the adjacent Washington Park Arboretum. For waterfront views and hiking trails, head to Discovery Park. The hill-top Kerry Park offers some of the best views of the city skyline, perfect for snapping photos of the Space Needle.
