Braulio Carrillo National Park

Braulio Carrillo National Park, Heredia Province

The Basics

Divided by one of Costa Rica’s busiest highways, Braulio Carrillo National Park is easy to access. One of the best ways to explore the area is to take the Aerial Tram, which is located on the park’s eastern side. Tram tours take you to three levels of rainforest, from the floor to the canopy, and include hikes as well as stops at a butterfly and hummingbird habitat, a reptile terrarium, and an orchid refuge.

Other tours include a cruise along the Sarapiqui River and a stop at animal sanctuaries in the nearby Black Madero wildlife reserve. To turn up the adventure, zipline over the forest canopy or take a whitewater rafting tour on the Chirripó River, which includes more than 20 class III rapids.

Great experience!
The guides were amazing! Even though mudslides closed some roads and there were delays the guides took time to get us safely there and back rather than canceling. The activities were awesome!

Motion sickness

Day Trip from San Jose to Tortuguero National Park (Canals)
We saw 3 wild sloths on our way, Carlos and Giovanni stopped the van on the road for us to take pictures. Bring money for bathroom breaks. Food and drinks were good. Bring motion sickness medicines because the van ride round trip is life threatening, Carlos was passING cars on the shoulder, across double lines, and played with the radio while driving. I will say it was a good time and I'm glad we went, but that bucket list has been checked off.

Day Trip from San Jose to Tortuguero National Park (Canals)
Our guide was amazing. Very knowledgeable about the country and it's history. Never rushed anyone, loved answering our questions, and made our trip very enjoyable. We had a wonderful hike, we sow howler monkeys, dart frogs, the ocean and the black volcanic sand, ate a wonderful lunch and had a few minutes in a very small town for shopping. A great day was had by all.

The experience was 1st class with a guide the entire time. Safety is also a priority; zip line guides had 27 years experience and built the park! Wildlife is abundant and facilities are clean and comfortable! Don’t hesitate on this experience!

Day Trip from San Jose to Tortuguero National Park (Canals)
This trip was amazing! Our tour guide was so kind, caring, friendly and so knowledgeable so would definitely recommend him - he was called Giovanni. The canal ride through Tortuguero National park was stunning and it felt like we were out of this world! The trek through the National park was also amazing and our guide pointed out animals like the red frog to us and he climbed with us to the viewpoint. Lunch was so delicious! We then walked along the beach and had some time to relax. I would highly recommend this tour! It was my favourite tour in Costa Rica!

We enjoyed our visit at the park; the ziplining, aerial tram, butterfly exhibit and food were great. The zip lining satisfied my partner's need for adventure and the aerial tram allowed us some one-on-one time to talk and relax up in the clouds. I spent time at the cafeteria while he ziplined and was able to enjoy food and drinks. Diego, the manager was amazing and very helpful. Overall, it was a great experience.

I never leave reviews. I believe people will have their own experiences regardless. I must say, this excursion was a blast. We opted for hotel pickup (though we had a rental) which is a grand choice if traveling from afar (San Jose). The employees and tour guides were very nice, professional, and knowledgeable. It rained a bit while we were on the tram, so I’d highly recommend bringing a poncho just in case.
