Roman Forum (Foro Romano)

Largo Romolo e Remo, Rome, 00186

The Basics

The site is most often visited on three-hour tours that combine a visit to the ancient city with a Colosseum tour. Whether you choose a private tour or small-group tour, it's wise to visit with an expert guide who can help you navigate the large space and bring the ruins to life with true stories of gladiators, Roman emperors, and Julius Caesar. After your visit, check out the adjacent ruins at Circus Maximus or pay a visit to the Capitoline Museums to see the display of classical Roman empire sculptures.

Ancient Rome in 3 hours
If you visit Rome, you actually can’t go without this tour. You will get to know so much more about ancient Rome and you will appreciate what you see in front of you so much better. All the elements were surprisingly dynamic. The tour guide is extremely knowledgeable and you can ask any question. It can be a long walk with kids, but definitely worth it.

Tickets Colosseum and Roman Forum with Multimedia Video
We had tickets for Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine hill, Vatican museum and Sistine chapel and I really recommend all of this iconic places. I just want to say that lady in tourist office was really friendly and help as a lot to plan how to visit all of these places, as we were really short with time and we travel with two babies and we had to make covid test before tours (she also help us with that), so without her help we wouldn't see all of these places :)

Colosseum Underground and Roman Forum Tour
Our tour guide Lucia was wonderful. This tour was exactly what we were hoping for. Everyone involved in the tour was super helpful. Highly recommend. We would suggest to eat before the tour. It did sneak into lunch time due to late start (covid hours)

We really enjoyed our tour with Zenda—it was incredible and so worth it to be able to go into the colosseum dungeons, which is the main reason we booked a tour, and to have someone help explain what it is we were looking at. The meeting instructions were a little out of date from pre-Covid and it would be worthwhile to update as we had some difficulty finding our tour, but we would definitely still recommend and enjoyed our experience. Thank you!

Guide Sarah provided such great historical context. New Covid requirements had just been implemented with the Green Pass and it all went smoothly. No wait times in line was great!

Colosseum Underground Tour with Roman Forum, Palatine Hill & Gladiator Arena
Excellent tour with a very smart and knowledgeable guide. She was well-prepared and also navigated new COVID-19 restrictions and processes with finesse, making for a very smooth experience. Highly recommend! That said, we hoped to go to the top of Palatine Hill, and we did not. It was just pointed out from below in the Forum. I believe it depends on which guide you have.

Awesome tour. Massimo was a great tour guide. Even with the new COVID 19 restrictions, Massimo got us to the ground floor part of the tour on time. The ground floor portion is a can’t miss part of the tour.

Our guide provided a wealth of information, including some eye-opening examples of word origins, to help us understand the relevance of the ancient sites we were seeing and connect them with our contemporary lives. He really made the ruins come to life.

Marco was a great tour guide with a lot of knowledge on his city! Definitely recommend. Also it was really great enjoying everything without the crazy crowds that are usually there this time of year. But with covid, everything was a lot emptier

When to Get There

As the Roman Forum shares an admission ticket with the Colosseum, it stays consistently busy throughout the day and often has long lines. Choose a walking tour with priority access to jump the queue and maximize your time.

Discovering the Roman Forum Ruins

Inside the archaeological area, stick to the Forum’s main thoroughfare, Via Sacra, to pass by important ruins such as the Julia Curia and the house of the Vestal Virgins. Some of the forum’s most impressive ruins include the white marble arch of Settimio Severo, the first-century Arch of Titus, and the remains of the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine. If you can’t get enough of ancient Rome, there’s plenty more history just outside the city with day trips available to Pompeii and the Appian Way.
