Colosseum

Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, 00184

The Basics

As the second most popular attraction in Italy after only the Vatican, the Colosseum hosts some 4 million annual visitors, meaning that long lines are nearly inevitable without a skip-the-line tour. Choose from a number of tours suited to any age or interest, such as a Colosseum underground tour that heads beneath the arena floor to explore a network of passages; a small-group guided tour of the third tier; or a night tour that offers an eery experience and relief from the daytime heat. Consider group tours, self-guided audio tours, or private tours to gain an understanding of this well-preserved ancient Roman amphitheater and its historical importance.

Great tour and explanation brought ancient Rome to life!
Our tour with Francesca was the highlight of our week in Italy! Her exciting and clear explanations helped bring the Colosseum to life for us! We appreciate the small, personalized tour and appreciate her time afterwards helping us find great restaurants!

Tickets Colosseum and Roman Forum with Multimedia Video
We had tickets for Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine hill, Vatican museum and Sistine chapel and I really recommend all of this iconic places. I just want to say that lady in tourist office was really friendly and help as a lot to plan how to visit all of these places, as we were really short with time and we travel with two babies and we had to make covid test before tours (she also help us with that), so without her help we wouldn't see all of these places :)

Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Guided Tour | Skip the Line Tickets
We really enjoyed our tour with Zenda—it was incredible and so worth it to be able to go into the colosseum dungeons, which is the main reason we booked a tour, and to have someone help explain what it is we were looking at. The meeting instructions were a little out of date from pre-Covid and it would be worthwhile to update as we had some difficulty finding our tour, but we would definitely still recommend and enjoyed our experience. Thank you!

VIP Colosseum Tour
We had a VIP small group tour of the Colosseum and it was incredible and well worth the price. Our guide was so knowledgeable providing a wealth of context and insight into what we were seeing which made the experience. The tour had to start a half hour later due to Covid restrictions and Viator kept us informed. I would highly recommend this tour.

Vatican and Colosseum Combo Tour: Don’t Wait in Line to See the Best of Rome
Elisabetta was PHENOMENAL. It’s our first trip post Covid and the family was totally impressed with the entire tour. Elisabetta’s knowledge was incredible. You would be lucky to have a Vatican tour with her. The afternoon tour was equally as perfect. The tour gave us insights into the Colosseum I did not know and I’ve been to Rome several times.

Skip-the-Line Entry Guided Tour in Rome Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
One of our favorite tours while in Rome! We are SO happy we upgraded to the private tour as having only two couple join my daughter and I was very personal and fun! LOVED our guide. His knowledge of the history of Rome, the architecture of what we were experiencing made this tour very memorable! Learning how advanced the Romans were in building the Colosseum - awestruck! Especially appreciative of the regular communication from our tour operator making us feel welcome and looked after!

Skip-the-Line Colosseum Ticket with Optional Tour Guide Access Upgrade
The Roman Forum was the best. Too much time in the Colosseum. And too many dates and history of all the conquering. Would rather more cultural. The C was very crowed.

Small-Group Ancient Rome and Colosseum Underground Tour
Andrea did a wonderful job with this tour. His grasp of the history along with his delivery of the information was engaging. He challenged us to use our imaginations so we could appreciate what the colosseum would have looked like if it was still whole. I highly recommend this tour.

Colosseum & Ancient Rome - Private Tour
We had an incredible experience with Serena. She was an excellent historian of not only the Colosseum, but the great history of Rome. She answered all of our questions and shared a lot of insights on the tour. 10-out-of-10 recommend!

When to Get There

Since the Colosseum is most crowded during the middle of the day, begin or end your Rome tour with a visit first thing in the morning or just before last entry (which is an hour before closing time) in the late afternoon. Alternatively, choose a night tour for a unique, less crowded experience. Summer is the most popular time of year to visit, while the site receives fewer crowds in November through February, aside from the Christmas and New Year holidays.
