The Basics

Most Prague tours make a stop at the Charles Bridge; although it’s easy to visit independently, tour guides will provide detailed explanations about the statues, which each has its own story. If you’re still craving more information, visit the Charles Bridge Museum on the east bank. Prague river cruises depart from the foot of the Charles Bridge on both sides of the river.

Charles Bridge: River Boat Cruise and Guided Tour ❤️
We had a great time exploring some of the 'less touristy' spots. Places we probably wouldn't have discovered on our own. As well as the popular areas too. Really nice balance between personal, local guide and then a more traditional boat tour. Would definitely recommend.

A very informative and engaging tour of this historical and beautiful city. Our guide, Jakub, gave us lots of tips for hidden places to visit and the best restaurants and bars in town. Would recommend to do this on your first day in the city to get the best of your time in Prague.

Prague Walking Tour of Old Town, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle
My husband and I took this walking tour while in Prague on 12-1-21. Unfortunately, I cannot remember our guide's name at this point, but she was absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to get a great historical overview of Prague. Although this tour is only 2.5 hours, you will be on the move and see many of the most important historical sites of the city.

Live Stream Tour of Prague's Charles Bridge and Old Town
This is an incredible tour with two amazing guides. You really feel like you are there, in person, walking along the Charles Bridge and visiting Old Town Prague. And Bonita and Vadim are so knowledgeable, you learn so much about the history and unique culture of Prague. We really enjoyed our tour and can't wait to visit in person. Thank you!

Prague Walking Tour of Old Town, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle
Our guide Michaela was absolutely fantastic! Very knowledgeable and knew the answer to every question - and there were many! She has a great sense of humour too. She was very comfortable to be with and it was like having a walk with a friend by the end of the tour which over ran by a good half an hour as she didn’t rush us at all. Would definitely recommend this tour as you start from the old town and walk across Charles bridge where she tells you the fascinating history of it, then you catch a tram up to the Castle, stopping for refreshments when you get there. We loved Michaela as she made the tour so be sure to ask for her if you can!

Prague Walking Tour of Old Town, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle
George gave us a special Prague Historical tour according to our preference. We mentioned our interest in history and he shaped his tour accordingly with information on church history, Jewish history, rulers, building architecture periods, pointed out statues and shared so many stories. It was so amazing! It was only my husband and I on the tour so very exclusive experience. Seriously worth it!

Michaela was excellent!

Prague Walking Tour of Old Town, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle
Can't say enough good things about my tour guide, Michaela! She was enthusiastic, knew her history, and took the time to answer questions as we went. The tour was engaging and interesting, and I got a lot of good pointers on where to spend the remainder of my time in Prague. My only feedback: It was a bit hard to find the starting place for the tour. There were a lot of other tours also holding up Umbrellas around the corner from the clock tower, and I spent about 10 minutes looking in the wrong place before circling back and finding the right tour.

How to Get to There

The Charles Bridge links the Old Town and Lesser Town over the Vltava River; it’s about a 10-minute walk from Old Town Square or a 15-minute walk from Wenceslas Square. The closest metro station is Staroměstská (Line A) on the east bank of the river, but numerous trams also run along the riverside and stop near the bridge.

When to Get There

It’s almost impossible to avoid the crowds along the Charles Bridge, especially in peak season (July and August), so your best bet is to visit early in the morning or late in the evening. If you’re hoping to capture a dramatic photograph of the bridge, arrive around sunrise, when the lighting is perfect and the views tend to be crowd-free.

A Prague Walking Tour

The Charles Bridge is ideally situated near Prague’s UNESCO-listed historic center. Start your walking tour in the Old Town, where you can watch the hourly display of the Astronomical Clock, stroll around the historic Jewish Quarter, and admire the Tyn Cathedral. Then cross the Charles Bridge into the Lesser Town and stop at the John Lennon Wall before climbing Castle Hill to visit St. Vitus Cathedral and take in the views from Prague Castle.
