Pic St-Loup

Route de Pompignan, Languedoc-Roussillon

The Basics

The wine produced on the low slopes of Pic St-Loup is some of the most highly-regarded terroirs in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Come to the mountain for wine-tastings or to hike along the well-maintained trails, enjoying unobstructed panoramas stretching to the Mediterranean Sea to the south and to the Cevennes Mountains in the north. At 215 feet (658-meters), the summit is within reach.

Travelers may discover Pic St-Loup as part of a half-day or full-day tour that may include walking or hiking explorations of the mountain as well as a bird’s eye view of the both Pic St-Loup, Montpellier,xa0 and Camargue nature reserve—where pink flamingos, wild white horses, and black Camargue bulls live—from the comfort of a small plane. Other tours visit some of the local AOC wineries for tastings.

Follow in the footsteps of the Saint Clément aqueduct as far as the Pic Saint Loup.
We had a wonderful time on this tour. David is a very knowledgeable guide and an excellent host. The views from Pic Saint Loup were astoundingly beautiful! The wine tasting was great fun. Lunch was delicious and full of interesting conversation with the others on the tour with us. The aqueduct is an awesome feat of engineering and also architecturally interesting. All in all we would highly recommend this tour! C'était formidable !

A great tour lead by a local. Bertrand knows everything about the area and knows all the best wineries and the wine makers. And his mom is an amazing cook. This tour feels like you are being shown around by family friends. A great experience.

I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful this entire experience was! Berteau was phenomenal and so personable and fun to be around. I learned so much about wine in France and his mother’s cooking is better than most restaurant cuisine. If you are in Montpellier this is a must do! The vineyard views are breathtaking.

Small-Group Half-Day Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup Wine Tour from Montpellier
My husband and I thoroughly recommend this tour. We had a wonderful half day exploring the wine country of the Languedoc. We happened to be the only two people on the tour so it was a private tour. Our tour guide was fantastic. He is a winemaker himself so he was very knowledgeable about the winemaking process. He was also very personable and friendly. The countryside was beautiful and the wines delicious. Great tour!

I can't add much more to what's already been said. This was a wonderful experience. It was 6 guests total with a pick-up in town by Bertrand. He is extremely friendly and clearly loves what he does. We were fortunate enough to see people actually harvesting the grapes, which apparently is a very small window of time. It was extremely informative, entertaining and we would recommend to anyone visiting the area. The lunch was phenomenal! It was exactly how I envisioned it.

This is a fun wine tour. Bertrand keeps it light and entertaining, but also is quite knowledgeable about the area and its wine making history. A nice way to spend a half day.

Took this tour back in April. Bertrand was an amazing guide! We visited several family owned winery's. We sampled the best the region has to offer. Our guide gave us a full knowledge on the region and the growing practices. We had the best lunch on our entire vacation at his moms estate! We even visited a mideveil village after! THIS TOUR IS A MUST:

How to Get There

Pic St-Loup is about 22 miles (35 kilometers) north of Montpellier, and is accessible by car via D986 and D113. Expect about a 45-minute drive, and for there to be parking in the commune of Cazevieille. A hike to the summit is manageable and should take between 1 and 2 hours.

When to Get There

Pic St-Loup is open year-round, as the climate is temperate year-round. The best time to visit the area is May or September when the rates are lower, crowds are fewer, and the birds arrive on migration. The flamingo flocks are especially extravagant in summer and winter. Come in June for the Festival of Live Architecture when Montpellier’s historic city center is taken over by ephemeral contemporary architecture.
